i use AVG 8 now and its working good for me providing complete security without any problem and without putting any extra load on my system. before this i was using AVG 7.5 for about one year or so and never faced any problem with that version too.
I presonally dont recoment kaspersky as once i tried it on my system which made my system to work really very slow and after uninstalling it it started working fine again and i am sure there is nothing wrong with setting.

I would suggest not to to use firewall of any antivirus suite... Be it Kaspersky or Norton or nething... If Zone Alarm isn't working for you... Go for Comodo Personal Firewall... It has won rave reviews that its better than most other firewalls, free or paid...

And Comodo is free too...

Comodo Firewall - It's a great firewall for the price (FREE), if you're familiar with how firewalls work then it's very easy to use.
