Thats an excellent idea ....

What softwares[reliable ] should i use for backup
My 160gb master hard disk is brimming with installed softwares . There is only 1 gb free space left . so is backup a reliable option ?

thats a lot of softwares.... i suggest you make a copy of the registry cuz thats the one thats stores the info of the programs used(main OS drive C:/WINDOWS/....)... as for the software concerned, i will have to browse the net and find a sutaible one for the job(since you have a lot of softwares)... what he used was a normal backup(only 80gb of data was there)....
