    Unhappy Clarification needed

    Hi ,

Does repairing a windows xp installation using the boot CD format the C drive, as when installing a new O.S ?

I have this small problem where i accidentally let one of my program delete a system DLL file during uninstallation.....

Whenever i try to install softwares like windows defender,Google Earth i get the following error

"The system DLL user32 was relocated in memory .The application will not run properly. The relocation occured because the DLL c:\windows\system32\SHELL32.dll occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs.The Vendor Supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."

I also get this error when trying to open MS Access ...But the other office products work fine ....

    what do i do ?

    This doesnt seem to work

A dialogue box appears ...It says verifying and then exits quickly...the problem still exists....

Should i try repairing the xp installation ?
or is there another way around this problem?

Once I reinstalled the XP in the same drive but with a different folder name. However the previously installed applications need to be re-installed too. So it's better to install XP as a fresh installation, in case you couldn't get rid of the current issue.

Now I remember, it is possible to repair using installation CD. I highly recommend to try 'R' option.

i dont think selecting repair option will delete/remove any files.... if you have a slight doubt about it i would suggest you to make an entire backup of the current OS,so if anything goes wrong you can just apply it back on.... my friend almost destroyed 8-9 pc by toying around with it(all were of really good config.).... mainly it used to be the OS, so one day i went to his house and made an entire copy of a newly installed OS(with all softwares) into his slave hard disk... from then on anytime he currupted his OS he will just login using the backup and fix it.... I am not a pro in this field but this is all i can think of... hope it was a use to you...

thats a lot of softwares.... i suggest you make a copy of the registry cuz thats the one thats stores the info of the programs used(main OS drive C:/WINDOWS/....)... as for the software concerned, i will have to browse the net and find a sutaible one for the job(since you have a lot of softwares)... what he used was a normal backup(only 80gb of data was there)....
