    Default Best Anti-Spyware And FireWall

    Which Do you think is the best anti-spyware and and firewall for Windows xp based computers ?

    And why in your opinion do you think that software is best ?

    I am opening this thread because previously popular Anti-spyware such as Ad-Aware have lost their edge .... The newer version seems to have some scanning bug causing it to crash ..... So among the most recent versions which one would be the best ?

    I use Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) & Spybot - Search & Destroy.
    I don't use any firewall...
    My friend is a security engineer (expert) @ McFee. He recommended Kaspersky.
    Its a good AV. He also said 'no need to have any additional firewall'.
    Spybot - Search & Destroy: Its a free & good anti spyware software.

    I use Avast Home edition & Zone Alarm free version firewall. I don't use any anti-spyware now. But S&D is the best out of which I have tried.

    I have used Threat-fire with Avast. But didn't felt the need for it. So I removed it soon after installing. Avast & Zone Alarm is good enough security softwares for me.

    Antispyware/Antimalware --->> Spybot - S&D with Windows Defender--->> Free but 99% safe!

    Firewall --->> Comodo--->> Free but 99% safe!

    P.S.- Even condoms can't gaurantee 100% safety!

    I though you use KIS as Anti-Spyware, Firewall & Antivirus.

    Yeah! Some times I don't use Antivirus or Firewall. And I format Windows when there is a virus problem (4-5 times a month).

    Me too, Me too.
    I haven't done that for a long time though. I use Advanced System Care and other system maintenance tools to keep the windows dust free.

    I use avira antivir security suite bcoz it has highest virus detection rates as compared 2 other softwares. ( proof : visit av-comparatives.org). It doesnt hog memory & works well.
    For system maintenance i use tune up utilities.

    IMO currently the best Anti spware tools are Spybot & Webroot Spysweeper
    and Zone Alarm and Commodo are very good firewalls.

    I'm way too lazy too reformat my system again n again, but at the same time I like get the most out of my PC.

    Since i'm dual booting windows xp n vista, after installing and configuring, updating all s/w , i take a backup of all files using winrar.

    When system becomes slow , i jus backup jus the necessary data - d/l list in IDM, E-mails d/l etc and delete files from vista without formating and restore from rar backup.

    I keep another backup of freshly installed windows coz in 4-5 months all the s/w become outdated in the first backup so I repeat the process.

    Also I created a customised, unattended XP cd using nlite, so that i can even use it for helping friends. Most of the tweaks found in s/w like Tune-up and others can also be set within the installation.

    Sure saves a lot of time.

    I also like diskeeper very much , although i am very disappointed with the latest version, as it has no new features for SATA users.

    Default Zone Alarm free + Spyware Terminator free

    When there is a question of having all the outbound and inbound protections, then i think, Zone Alarm firewall is the best in this category. I have been using it for the last three years without any problem. It is free and having very easy interface. While choosing a good antispyware, be sure that it should be a real time protection and regularly up datable, and in this category i think spyware terminator is very good. It is also free. For extra protection you can also install a couple of other antispywares e.g. spyboat search & destroy and lavasoft adaware free. But both of these antispywares do not provide real time protection.

    KAV has integrated Anti Spyware. For firewall purposes Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 can also be used.

    Thats right.. KIS 2009 doesn't allow u to install any other firewall like zone alarm or comodo...

    No other anti-spyware too...
