Try enabling Show Hidden Files and Folders from Folder Options.

Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Select Show Hidden Files and Folders -> Apply -> OK.

    BTW.What is wmav ?

Great. Why dont u switch to something like KAV? Or Antivir. It seems like your machine got infested with a trojan and in the process of cleaning it up with E-scan some of the settings have been altered. I would suggest scanning the pc online using the kaspersky online scan (Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab) or downloading the trial version from (Free Antivirus: Trial Versions)

I think that the computer has been hijacked by a trojan. Such trojans do many things:

    a) they switch the browser home page to their own page; no amount of changing resets that
    b) many folders become hidden and we cannot unhide them
    c) regedit stops working
    d) system restore stops working
    e) c:\windows and C:\windows\system32 are loaded with some new DLLs that get loaded at system start. We cannot remove them
    f) All AV's fail because those DLLs take control of the system

These trojans are usually introduced by unsafe keygen and crack programs.

@yesaf, tell me, if one or more or all of the above is true?

I have had this problem a couple of times with some minor viruses affecting my PC.
I used task manager & found process running that I had not seen before.I googled it for more info. Then used regedit to delete all traces of that process...deleted all files related to it, removed it from startup processes.

Wouldn't work if the virus is of a more serious nature.

Is ur 500GB HD an external one?

    u can try the following,
    1. install XP on the 80gb HD.
    2. install a good anti-virus (e.g. AVG or Antivir) & also any good anti spyware
    3. install CCleaner
    4. run CCleaner & use Tools>Start-up
    5. locate any abnormal entry & delete it
    6. restart
    7. repeat process 4 - 6 if necessary.
    8. run CCleaner>Registry>Scan
    9. Fix all issues
    10. Restart
    11. now scan ur 500GB HD with anti-virus & anti-spyware.
    12. delete all problem files

this because of a very common trojan infection which spreads via pen drives and mp3 players ... this a very common problem ... i am surprised nobody yet came up with a solution ...

    here is the solution ...

For many days i was facing an issue that hidden files were not showing up in my PC even if i enabled the show Hidden Files checkbox in the Folder Options dialog box. I edited various values in the registry, but i was not able to solve the problem. Then i browsed through this link and found a solution for showing hidden files.

    The steps are :-

    * Open registry( select run command from start menu and type regedit and then press enter)
    * In the left pane goto path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftware\Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Explorer \Advanced \Folder \Hidden \SHOWALL
    * Delete the value CheckedValue in the Right pane by right clicking it and selecting delete. (Its type should be REG_SZ and data should be 2.)
    * Create a new DWORD value called CheckedValue by right clicking in the Right pane and then selecting new -> DWORD Value and then changing the name to CheckedValue. (same as above, except that the type is REG_DWORD). Modify the value data to 1 (0×00000001) by right clicking the CheckedValue in the Right pane and selecting modify and changing the value data to 1.

This should let you change the “Hidden Files and Folders” option.

Why this happens? The fact that the hidden files were not showing up was due to virus which would have changed the value in the registry and the virus may be still present. Even when the virus was removed the old value may not have been restored in the registry.

    @ yesaf

first of all it is not clear whether your problem is solved or not - if it is solved this thread deserves no more discussion.
    if not:
have you tried the solutions adviced in these posts?

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/comput...tml#post103224 (hidden files not shown)

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/comput...tml#post103414 (hidden files not shown)

if some solution is adviced and you dont follow it whats the use of extending the same discussion on and on? plz go through the steps in these posts(anyone of them) - if you face problems implementing those steps - plz post - we will clarify it.

    @ amitkool21

same thing applies to you. you suggested some solution. so first ask him to go through it. help him go thrugh the steps. he posted that he followed a completely different solution steps which didnot solve his problems.

    @ mods/admin

i am not in any authority for saying these things like what i have said here to amit and yesaf , but i think these kind of threads lead to no solution if suggested methods are not implemented properly. everyone is just going with the flow of the previous post on this thread. what was the use of searching those solutions and posting them here then?

thanx friends my this problem is solwd. thanx to u all.

I have tried Mcafee, norton, kaspersky, spyware remover / terminator . all at 3 or 4 time. all the time thy missd some infected files.
in the last 6 day (105 hour hours) working with my pc i hav learned ..no single antivirus can protect from all the virus. after 6 days now my pc is ok.

to prevent from problem like this
    1. allways kep 2 or 3 latest antivirus and spyware remover / terminator in ur data.
    2. instead of going live updat download latest updat from net n keep in data to use in critical situation.
    3. after updating from downloaded updat plz go on live updat.so u dont need to waste ur time.

if u feel ur pc working slow or hav infected with virus but ur antivirus not ditecting problem. install new antivirus and scan pc.

do not run more than one AV software in real-time mode

turn off system restore service while scaning pc

    1. b4 install new antivirus plz updat ur running antivirus and scan ur pc.
    2. if u dont hav latest updat for ur new antivirus dowload it from net.
    3. if u r using norton get norton removal tool. coz some time u cannot remov norton easily.
    4. now unistall ur running antivirus restart ur pc and install new one. updat it from downloaded .exe then go for live updat. then scan ur pc.

if u r using norton or going to us plz check ur system_volume_restore_information folder in nortons exclusion list.

if its in norton exclusion list. remov it then scan.

friend if something wrong plz tell me.

Its surprising to learn that Kaspersky missed some of the infections. Did u use Kaspersky 2009 or some older version?

Running more than one AV software in real-time mode is foolishness. That alone will start slowing down the PC as the two AV softwares will scan the different files and folders at the same time.

I use super antispyware software to remove spyware traces.

Its better to stop using system restore service once your pc is infected. Because viruses have this tendency of reinfecting the PC when a previous restore point is applied.
