However, the POP3 in yahoo.co.in works only on the inbox and not on folders. So if u have any filters activated to directly move certain messages to any folder without them ever appearing in the inbox, then such mails would not be downloaded.

One alternative is using Thunderbird with the add-on "Webmail" instead of OE. The webmail add-on allows downloading mails from specified folders. So u have full control on the folders from which to download mail.

    and

Thunderbird with the add-on "Webmail" allows u POP3 access to @yahoo.com IDs also.
thanks a lot ... if i could i would have repped you again .. i will try this in a few days before formatting my laptop ... i will post my experience with the process here

Gmail is good and its also become quite popular over the years. If im not wrong then you were only able to get a gmail account if you were invited...is that right....and why was this, if anyone knows?

I havent really looked into any other features of gmail, what all other features do they have now, and whats the advantage of using them?

The labeling feature is good, but nothing as special, it would however be better if we could organize mails into folders and keep the inbox for only new mails other mails which do not need to be sorted (like outlook express).
