yes. absolutely.
Just make sure to check "use authentication" option so that the client uses the mailID and password while sending the mail.

BTW, I use Thunderbird, have not used Outlook express for almost 4 years. So my memory is a little rusty.

I also have Gmail A/c configured in the same Thunderbird, and there is no problem in sending mail for that also. Gmail also require the "use authentication" option.

Surely u dont think yahoo and google is that stupid to let users download email, but not to send emails !!

Definitely its a two-way process. Emails can be send and received using OE.

this is what made me think so Is pop3 access of yahoo.co.in account free? - Yahoo! Answers India

What are the pop and smtp servers for yahoo.co.in? I require the same for setting up my account thro outlook? - Yahoo! Answers India

i still am not sure about the full functionality of yahoo.co.in and gmail using mail clients .... i will have to try that for myself ...

setting up mail id in outlook express or any client wont disturb my normal web view and settings of the mail accounts na?

No it would not.
However, the POP3 in yahoo.co.in works only on the inbox and not on folders. So if u have any filters activated to directly move certain messages to any folder without them ever appearing in the inbox, then such mails would not be downloaded.

One alternative is using Thunderbird with the add-on "Webmail" instead of OE. The webmail add-on allows downloading mails from specified folders. So u have full control on the folders from which to download mail.

Gmail is good and its also become quite popular over the years. If im not wrong then you were only able to get a gmail account if you were invited...is that right....and why was this, if anyone knows?

I havent really looked into any other features of gmail, what all other features do they have now, and whats the advantage of using them?

The labeling feature is good, but nothing as special, it would however be better if we could organize mails into folders and keep the inbox for only new mails other mails which do not need to be sorted (like outlook express).
