6 letters should be minimum and maybe include a digit as well!
Download this tool:
Security Guide for Windows - Random Password Generator
Its only 392 KB...very small.
You can create passwords like: B8es7ust or b?S73raC?+...which are very difficult for anyone to seconds guess.
Practicle Guide lines for password (maybe just too practicle ? )
->Mix mixes uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and punctuation
->built from a phrase that a user can memorise
-> minimum characters 8 (standard rule) .... more the characters more Harder it is to break it
->Dont use your name , city name,pet name etc etc
->Avoid common words
->Proxy sites steal you password , never log in from proxy sites
Example :
Step 1:
selecting a random phrase
i eat weblogs
Step 2:
Strengthening it using things i can remember
My favourite number = 746 (not really)
so
Encoding it --> i7eat4web6logs
step 3 : Capitalising
I7Eat4Web6logs
step 4 : More Numerals
I = 1
o = 0
s = 5
17Eat4Web6log5
Step 5 : Punctuating
17E"at4W"eb6log5!
step 6 : Symbols @ , # $ etc ...here a=@
17E"@t4W"eb6log5!
Tada ! A password created by you which even you wont recognise
You dont have to follow all the steps
Note : The stronger your password is the harder it will be to remember

i tried" i eat weblogs " password on your account a many times shadowcon but its not working :lol:
Now they use very advanced methods using technology .... nobody guesses anymore
one of the oldest method used is
Dictionary attack -> computer uses dictionary to enter all names/nicknames and English words ... even trying combinations such as Capitalised words For Example the computer may try rat in 3 different forms Rat /rAt/raT
as computers are fast they can try all possible combinations in few hours
so a hacker needs only your mail id to hack ur account !
This can even now capture 60-70% of the passwords because users use weak password
additional combination rules can be defined in the dictionary/Database
yes thats true by all senses..
i even heard russian hacker mafias are issuing passwords for as low as $1.5 only..
was just joking...
i feel people must use very long passwords with numbers symbols..
Hey if you have any elementary program knowledge in any of C, C++, Java
You can write a very simple program to generate a password for you.
I have one for mine. But i dont use it (bit lazy).
Also regarding Attacks
Beware of your security questions
Try to give funny answers for those.
Example:
Who is your first teacher?
Answer - Brinjal Rice
You need not remember it as most sites offer you to reset via email

freeware
categories for having passwords
portable

offtopic posters ----> GTH
Writing password and storing it somewhere is not at all safe....![]()
Minimum 8 characters.
A combination of uppercase letter , lower case letter, numbers & special characters.
The password must contain at least one uppercase letter , lower case letter, numbers & special characters.
Yes, Jeee - your actual password will give us a very good example. go ahead. tell us. we wont tell it to anyone else.![]()
:lol:
And don't worry we won't change it once we use it![]()
for Indians its quite easy
take any word from your mother tongue
write the spelling in english
add a special character somewhere in between
add a number also
eg take byomkesh bokshi (the famous detective character)
its a name so should start with a capital
add two special characters
Byom#kesh$Bokshi
add a number also
Byom#kesh$Bokshi1
now lets see who can sugest a way to crack such passwords
The caps lock is interesting, i generally think that passwords need to be small caps, well i suppose its a habit you dont think of adding caps to a password.
At times i think if you need to login into an account then it would be annoying having to change the caps lock key everytime.
