When we use torrents, our IP is visible on net; which makes it unsafe.

But we can keep ourselves safe by forcing the data stream encryption. Even though your IP is visible but they can't know what are you downloading from torrents & there are many legal torrents.

I feel limewire is worse than torrrent, because there's no proper means for content managements. Atleast in torrents you have things like Pvt trackers or atleast user comments to know if the torrent is good or bad.

that even happens if u r using a firewall...furthermore that IP is of the router u r using not ur comp (if u are using NAT)

to pevent inbound attacks a router with NAT enabled and the inbuilt windows firewall is sufficient.

thats what i am saying buddy. Torrents are better but downloading directly from others using limewire is not, coz there's no foolproof way to check if the stuff ur downloading is fake/malicious.

still i didnt face any problem because the songs are of very less size just 3/4MB.

Some reasons why: In all the time i have been using these firewalls (more than 4 yrs), i have just had to block access to a malicious application just once. And i dont even know whether it was successful in blocking that app. This app made its way to the comp due to my own ignorance too.

Most of the times they just cause problems with other applications.

and i dont have any applications that i need to block from phoning home.

Having a HIPS installed along with an antivirus is probably the most that is needed. Already am behind a router and have windows firewall enabled as well so am now just gonna take it easy and stop wasting my time on these firewalls.

    Peace!
Maybe the firewall is doing it's job silently. I have only seen Zone Alarm block message one time, but check the log.

nope... these messages were common even on my system when i dint have a router... at that point was the sw firewall really comin in handy and i dint have a choice other than runnin it. its been totally silent ever since i switched to airtel.
