It means installing operating system again but on ur other drive
so that in emergency ,you can simply shift to the other operating system on ur Hard Disk
and can solve the issues OR can so easily & so quickly format the infected Operating System-Drive

Well, but how do you solve problems arising from viruses that don't go even after formatting your native windows OS drive ?

Shifting your work to a back up HDD is just like running away from problem. But how do you deal with problem ??????????

If you really want to keep your work safe at the same time keeping all the settings and softwares in your native OS, then use some tool like clonezilla to make an image of your naive OS (C drive.) from time to time which you can restore in case of any crash.

Except the boot sector viruses , you can simply just delete almost any MS windows virus from your HDD with little bit of experience and use of any latest live OS. Takes some time but works well, like search and destroy. Because you can format your windows partition but sometimes it becomes impossible to remove any virus which sits quietly in your non OS drive and comes back every time you install a fresh copy of windows OS. It is impractical to just format all the drives at a time .

I am searching for ways to backup and restore LINUX(with MBR) ,but yet to find out anything working 100%. Any help will be much appreciated.

google it
easy to find
burn the ISO-bootable (about 110MB)
then explore
The tool is meant only for drive and HDD cloning, very simple, so no need of any guidance. Try it.
Still if you find problem then ask.

BTW, the tool has a few drawbacks, such as, it cannot create partitions and it won't detect free disk space. It only shows the prepartitioned(both formatted and non-fomatted) spaces on HDD. This is applicable only during drive cloning.
There is also an MBR problem, but the problem is only for LINUX users, not for MS based OS users.

I am a bit busy for my interviews now. If I find time, I will post a review on clonezilla in the LIVE OS review thread.

Because that happens once in a month or may be twice.
If you mean ,formatting a normal drive, there is no specific pattern, depends upon the requirement.

I started a similar kind of thread on IBB some months ago about the frequency of OS installation.
yes it means fresh installing of OS.

Who Would like to delete all his precious data when no requirement?

very important..... buddy
This is indeed..the most powerful way to deal with the
most of the nasty software problems
"that requires formatting"

time & again we get some irritating software issues...
viruses...& many more such things

in case , if anyone has such problem
& he just can't able to solve it quickly enough in his expected time

all he needs to do is.....

OPTION 1
simply shift to the other operating system on the same HDD
(just a restart needed)
then either format the infected drive...
(formatting a single drive is totally different thing.... than
formatting Total pc............the First one is... so quick & so easy &
has many other advantages)

OR

OPTION 2 [ No formatting needed ]

he can simply delete the infected windows folders on the infected Drive
(....namely....Documents & settings , Program Files...& Windows
but very carefully...)
[ Note : one can not delete windows folder "unless" he is on the other
operating system on the same HDD....so he has to be bit careful ]
and then he can simply reinstall the operating system on that drive

and what are the advantages.....

HUGE

1. No need to install any graphics drivers and such things,
..... As most of the times ,
it will be automatically taken from the first (other) operating system

2. Just don't have to worry about backing up data constantly..
each & every time

3. if we go for total formatting of a pc , the first irritating job is
we have to transfer/ backup all the required data to
some other source
where in this process, with option 2 as given above,
no single file is needed to transfer....isn't that really amazing

whereas for option 1 ...it is also too easy to transfer needed files
in your same hard disk in the other drive...again too quick & too easy

4. In the option 2 ,which i often would like to have...

absolutely no formatting is needed....
what else one can ask for

still.... this list of advantages can go on & on...indeed

And what about the viruses that can go beyond system folders..

if we have a good antivirus program like AVG ( really good enough
to bash many of the viruses...
then its absolutely & highly unlikely that
viruses can hide beyond system folders
It hardly happens yaar
and if it happens..
then & then only we go to the other option

and of course...thanks for your reply puchu

But if you have a good antivirus, then what is the need for shifting to another OS at the first place !!!!!!!!!
I am not bothered about software problem. You can delete them from registry anytime.
And for hardware problem, the only hardware problem till now I couldn't understand was when my Media center card started giving partially negative pictures.

As far as AVG is concerned, have they solved the HTTPS problem ? And does it have boot time scan now ?
==============================================
Can anybody solve my problem ? It has been eating my brain for last few days.
I have xp with LINUX in multiboot. But my MBR goes corrupt and I forgot about LINUX and restored MBR through Xp CD. But now GRUB is unable to write a new MBR. How can I solve it ? And I have also tried installing a new copy of LINUX but everything goes fine without any error but the problem persists.

thanks for reply mate

This solution is for those millions of people who
have yet to familiar with the registry and such "expert" issues

For non-software-technical person, the above solution
is quite handful.... otherwise....he should learn the Expert software issues
Doesn't it

hey...why not simply start a separate thread for the above
surely someone will have a say there

and ( if Admin don't mind)....
for Real Expert software issues
which are far beyond the reach of common-man....
what about trying U.S. based software forum just as an addition

and of course, this sweet forum is there for all for all issues

.

Not at all.... formatting dose not affect hdd life..
The normal life of hdd is 5-6 years of continuous use...
So how formatting affect my hdd?
If it is SSD, then it is gonna definitely die within 3 years if I format it regularly...
But my hdd is normal magnetic hdd...
So don't worry about it...

Keep your antivirus/firewall upto date and run a genuine operating system and you will never feel the need to wasting so much time on reformating your computer.
The only time I did a reinstall of operating system was when my computer's harddrive crashed.
