I am using genuine windows vista home premium with microsoft security essentials for protection

Is it okay or do I need other antivirus also for good safety?

It should be sufficient, as long as you don't experiment too much with pirated software.
Please disable auto-run feature of your CD/DVD drive and USB drives, which to some extent can help. Always scan USB devices, like pen drives, before you open them.
Install WOT in your Firefox browser which help you stay away from bad sites (by the way, use firefox, it is safer than IE ). Only good precaution and safety habits can help.
    Regards

I was a Zone Alarm paid-up customer for years. In fact I'm paid up for a year ahead, for up to three computers.

On one of those machines, I've gone Linux anyway, on the other --- a six-year-old laptop, which, up to two days ago had only 256Mb ram, Zone Alarm became so bloated that it was about all the machine would run. I've ditched it.

Probably the first time I've ever thrown out a product in favour of a Microsoft one! Probably the first time the Microsoft one has been smaller, neater, and, from reviews I read, effective. It's running on that laptop now. It's also installed on the just-occasionally-booted WinXP partition of my Linux machine.

I think it is fine, but do all of the stuff in pshrinivasan's post anyway, including not using IE.
