    Default Firewall Protection

In securing a computer, we tend to rely on Anti-virus softwares thay provides security. Aside from Anti-virus, Firewall also protects our devices from threats.

Why is there a need for a Firewall, if we already have an Anti-virus? Can some share their opinions to clarify the difference between Anti-virus and Firewall to know what tasks each protection corresponds?

Both are entirely different. In simple words, a firewall is an advance security approach while an antivirus is an afterward security approach. A firewall basically supervise and controls network traffic and connection attempts. It is firewall that determines whether a connection attempt or traffic has to be passed through or not. You can say it is just like a filter to ward off harmful data.

But Antivirus is an afterward approach. It is a software that detects programs or files that might compromise safety of your computer and data. It detects harmful programs or viruses that are already installed or about to install in your computer. It is very important to update your antivirus at regular intervals to catch new viruses that are being introduced everyday. So both are very important in their fields.

As @webworld says, both are very important and having one doesn't mean that you don't need the other.

When it comes to firewalls, there are many available, but on a Windows PC then there's isn't any better in my opinion than Microsoft's own version.

Firewall is something that worries me a lot, I'm working with online money. The windows firewall is not a good alternative, right? Could you mention any really good firewall, no matter what it is paid.

In simple words, Firewall is used to filter the traffic to your system but only when you are in a network. It can't stop/delete the virus spread through a pen drive. Whereas, Anti-Virus software is used to protect your system from harm which can be caused due to a direct/physical access of system. But now, many Anti-Virus software companies are providing an in-built firewall (naming internet security).

Finally, if you think you are using internet wisely, then default Firewall, Anti-Virus is enough. If you want your system to be heavily protected, then buy a Firewall software or run KfSensor (works like a guard dog) on your system.

vinisouz, If you are interested in KfSensor, then try the free version. It's a bit difficult to use in beginning, but you can use it well withing a few days. KfSensor works like a guard dog. It alerts you whenever someone tries to access your system, even when someone just scans your IP. In order to use it effectively, you need to learn a few things about usual attacks on network systems.

A firewall blocks unauthorized communications that is when it is properly configured it also minimize damages caused by spyware by blocking unauthorized access.
Antivirus software protect your gadgets from viruses, spyware and adware. What it does is prevention, detection, and remove malicious software.
