How to know if an online store is safe from hackers?

One of the reasons why I am afraid to shop online is the hackers. I remember many hackers were able to get the credit card numbers of online store clients just by checking the back page of a website. I heard online stores have better security now but I am still intimidated of any site that asks me for my credit card number. I trust a website more that uses Paypal as an option for payment. How do you know if a store is safe from hackers? Can an online store be sage even without Paypal?

Yes, there are pages with the security sign, and a lot of them have been tested to ensure the security of a buyer, I normally look to, so has not to be defrauded and I always check if their customer care is working.

I mm really hesitant when stores directly asks for my credit card number. That is why I prefer those online stores with Paypal support. I haven't tried paying with my credit card number because I feel uncomfortable sharing it. I also haven't tried paying with cryptocurrency which is becoming a trend these days.
