I done something stupid, and now i regret it, I removed the old yahoo messenger from my comp to download the new version, and now it doesn't get downloaded.
Well it does until 80% is completed and a message comes up:

"incorrect command line parameters.

Download Yahoo Instant Messenger 9 (full standalone installation) - compatible with Windows Vista

then download from the link given.

Try installing Windows Installer 3.1.

@ Leo: i saved the file, but its not compatible with any format on my comp

@ Archer: if i install Windows again will, it will erase everything on my drives wont it?

Why is message coming up anyway?

It's only a Windows Installer upgrade. The error message could be because Windows Installer in your computer is older version than the one needed for Yahoo Messenger 9.

He didn't wanted you to reinstall your Windows (And anyway, by reinstalling the drives won't be erased).

Just check the link he provided and you'll most probably understand.
It is just an update for Windows.

what archer meant was Windows Installer -- the software which installs the yahoo messenger, shows the licence screen , progress of installation ... maybe u should try the link he gave..

It has nothing to do with installing windows..

its strange, the link i gave was for a standalone installer and net connection is not required during installation.

I thought that you would have heard them, because the film was dubbed to a lot of languages including Tamil.

try this one. use firefox while downloading. when download is completed, log off internet connection and then install. after installation is completed, then start internet again.
if this doesnt work then the problem is with wininstaller as archie said.
then download and install windows installer patch 3.1 from the link archie gave.

It must be an issue with windows installer as archer suggested..

maybe but as the common ymg is an online installer, it does have some installation problems (mainly because yahoo is too cheap to show ads even during installation, they think they have done a brilliant job, those idiots ). thats why i dont want to leave any stone unturned.

naa re, I hate yahoo so much that i practically dont use ymg ( i dnt need sleazy chatrooms). but u have hit upon an interesting topic and i will search for it. if u know abt anything let me know.

I have a notion that yahoo uses UDP protocol to transfer larger flash/gif ads, so if u block UDP for ymg (leaving TCP open) in ur firewall, u may save the day. This is just an idea and i may well be wrong.

If you are using Linux then Skype is the best.

I dont think any firewall can block UDP because its a Protocol [Universal Datagram Protocol]

I am assuming that it may be disabled but never blocked

I think Firewall can block TCP(Transmission Control Protocol)/UDP(User Datagram Protocol) both
various type of firewall techniques are
Packet filter,Application gateway,Circuit level gateway,Proxy server
among this Circuit level gateway has the security mechanism which applied when TCP/UDP connectivity is setup.

Dont know about other firewalls, but my bitdefender firewall can block usage via UDP protocol for any program (individually, no need to block it for all). It can also block TCP protocol usage for any program. I m more than 100% sure and know this as a fact. Done it myself on numerous occasions. Its both theoratically possible and practically done by my Bitdefender firewall.

Now that I think of it, data transfer in each direction through each protocol can seperately be treated through firewalls if the firewall gives user the freedom. That means I can block upstream data transfer for a program through UDP/TCP while leaving downstream open and vice versa.

For your Y ! Msgr ,try out a system restore & a registry cleanup. If these dont work try out Trillian messenger (Cerulean Studios: Creators of Trillian and Trillian Pro Instant Messengers) which is a combination of popular online messengers.

Even Pidgin and Digsby are quite worth mentioning for access to multiple services.. gmail,yahoo aim etc...
