Rep Power: 10 | Excellent information J4Kix. Added reps. I was just looking for this, was just too lazy to ask. -F The video_ts files - how large are they? I am just trying to figure out how many dvds I can backup in the 320GB portable drive I bought recently. Can I save in different quality levels with varying sizes? -F Last edited by Punch Farce; 06-10-09 at 05:54 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

On the other hand DVD Shrink (my fav) is ripper plus encoder. It can rip DVD as is (no compression) or rip and compress DVD for the standard single layer DVD size (4.2 GB). Note that compression means re-encoding and takes some time. To answer your question, if you use no compression, then: a) assuming each DVD to be of average 8 GB b) your hard disk formatted size as 298 GB c) you will be able to rip and store about 37 DVDs if you use automatic compression, then: a) each DVD will be 4.2 GB b) you will be able to rip and store about 70 DVDs Refer to the whole guide in the link in my previous post.

Rep Power: 1 | Hi (1.) Could try DVD Decrypter (for breaking copy protection) (2.) Could try Any DVD (for breaking copy protection)...will allow u to open region coded DVDs also (3.)Than use DVD Shrink as suggested by just4kix If you want as iso image without ripping the DVD to hardrive(meaning all the file)......let us say you want the exact replica of the DVD...than use Any DVD (first open it).....than Using nero try and make iso image of the file and finally using Daemon Tools, Nero Image Drive open and watch the DVD. If one has plenty DVDs one wants to save to hardrive and is willing to go for a compression use AUTOGK program (have been using for more than 2years this program...its a good proggy)......just as just4kix has said in another post http://www.indiabroadband.net/comput...dvix-xvid.html (AutoGK - Convert DVD to DViX/XViD.) With AutoGK u can comptess a DVD 4.2GB to 700mbs and if done with proper settings you will not be able to make out a single pixelation issue even on a Hi-Def TV. There are various ways one can download DVDs to hardrive. Choose your pick |

2. AnyDVD is also a good program but it is not freeware and hence I did not say anything. I am a supporter of freeware. AnyDVD is much more advanced than DVD Shrink - it allows complete DVD re-authoring, But since the request was simple, I thought freeware is better. 3. AutoGK is also nice but it will convert the DVD to DivX. Compression mean loss of quality. Have a look here: http://www.indiabroadband.net/hollyw...peg2-xvid.html (Info: What is difference between DVD/MPEG2 and XViD) | |

| Platinum Member | Hmmm. fms007. I was not arguing - just putting my thoughts in B&W. About DVD to DVix. I ran some of the AXXO outputs on my projecter (720p). The pixellation is slight but ignorable. But what is disappointing is the black levels (contrast). Besides, a small correction. DVD to DVix will be about 9 GB --> 700 MB. Rep Power: 1 | Yes i know that you were just elaborating on your thoughts aloud.....the same with me too, About aXXo , i too have noticed in some of his outputs (at times) pixellation,...BTW, the movies which i have tried on the Hi-Def TV were my own conversions (with autoGK) from DVD 9, but as you know DVD 9 (original) usually have extra additional material, which when filtered by choosing only the main movie one can get only the main movie which maybe 4.7GB...it has been this which i have converted to 700mb |
