right click on the dvd drive.. click explore.. and than tell me the files inside... there should be 2 folders..
audio_ts
video_ts..
copy video_ts folder to your hard disk,,,, play as per u want.. the biggest file size will be ur movies ..
i hope u got the point..
yeh thanks its being copied to my comp now! But in the video-ts folder, there are so many files, which one do i click on to start the movie?
You can as Mr.Tooth Fairy has said or if you have nero ....goto copy disc and you can make an exact replica of you DVD (an exact image)....than u can load it using Nero image drive, or some other virtual image drive program (just google it)....(eg Virtual CloneDrive......)
Open PowerDVD program and point it to the video ts folder........the files mostly/maybe are 0.99MB
For DVD i will recommend you At first
1.create the image file in Nero then
2. Use DAEMON tool or any similar other software which will create virtual DVD drive (Like I J,K )
3. load the image file in DAEMON tool
4. Then Open Power DVD or any other similar software and show the path
It will work Similarly in VCD also but i don't think for VCD you need such all step because VCD file (.DAT) can be easily copy-paste into your hard disk and you can open it in any software.

mostly see the properties.. to guess simply.. the biggest size file carries ur movie stuff.. rest few MBs will carry initial things tht dvd displays.. click on the larget sizee file..., ur movie will start........u many need to forward or rewind as per the file size and dvd compilation.. u will know exactly as u click on few of them n try.. let me know.. or post the screen shot of the files or list it here.. if possible by u ..
i think it will be messy explaing her for daemon tools.. so told her this method..![]()

All the above replies are only partially correct and will work for non-CSS (or unprotected) DVDs only.
I am in a bit of hurry to go to my gym. I will reply in detail later.
Ok i copied the movie from DVD to my comp, but its didn't come out very well I could not even see the images clearly, either there is something wrong with the DVD or the the way it got copied.
i didnt understand it clearly please give some more details about your problem,
which are the files you copied from the DVD (extension)
As I said copying DVD files to hard disk is not the proper way. It will work for non-encrypted i.e. no-CSS, no macrovision, region free, no RCE, DVDs (like those available in India - pirated or otherwise).
This method will FAIL MISERABLY with DVDs purchased abroad. DVDs distributed by all major Hollywood studios have the following protection:
1. Macrovision: This is the oldest form of content protection. This was introduced to prevent copying of DVD to VHS (via VCR). If you try to copy a DVD to VHS, you will find that the copied VHS will have brightness fluctuation through out the movie. The scenes will glow dim/dull/dark and then come back to the original strength. This cycle repeats itself every minute making the watching of the copied content a painful experience.
2. CSS: Content Scramble System (CSS) uses a 40-char cypher to encrypt DVDs. The cypher is stored in the master sector (lead-in sector) of the DVD. This master sector (lead-in sector) is not copied by the standard DVD copy programs. Ordinary disk copy will completely fail.
3. Region Encoding: The DVD world is divided into 6 regions and there is a special code called Region-0 which means region free. To play a region encoded DVD, the region code of the DVD drive must match the region code of the DVD itself. See here:
DVD Regions
4. RCE: Region Code Enhanced. This was a retroactive attempt to prevent the playing of one region's discs in another region, even if the disc was played in a region free player. The scheme was deployed on only a handful of discs. The disc contained the main program material region coded as region 1. But it also contained a short video loop of a map of the world showing the regions, which was coded as region 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The intention was that when the disc was played in a non-region 1 player, the player would default to playing the material for its native region. This played the map, which was impossible to escape from, as the user controls were disabled. (Source = Wikepedia)
Having understood the above, what are the options?
The options are also available because hackers and enthusiasts break any kind of copy protection mechanism. The answer is a wonderfull tool known as DVD Shrink. Download it here or do a Google serach.
DVD Shrink is self explanatory and there are tons of tutorials available. DVD Shrink can remove all content protection and copy your DVD to Hard Disk or another DVD. The copied content will be:
a) Macrovision Free
b) De-CSS
c) Region Free
OK. This is all about copying. Now how to play a DVD properly?
Once you have copied DVD to HDD, your will see the following:
Movie Directory name
|
+-- AUDIO_TS <DIR>
+-- VIDEO_TS <DIR>
AUDIO_TS will be empty. It is created only for backward compatibility with old DVD players. VIDEO_TS will have all the content. In this directory, you will find:
*.BUP files: Back Up Files
*.IFO files: Information Files
*.VOB files: Video Objects
All the above answers which tell you to play VOB file. That is INCORRECT.
1. To play the DVD, open the DVD player such as PowerDVD or WinDVD or whatever you have.
2. Find the IFO file that is the biggest in size (usually this is VIDEO_TS.IFO).
3. Open this file in the DVD player.
4. Bingo ...
p/s. I am never too shy of asking repo's

Yes. You can make a .ISO image file and use Daemon Tools to load the image. I was going to mention that also. But I was not sure that is what Preeti wanted.
Also, that means some additional steps.

well.. u r not shy for askin.. but v r shy for giving.. ( looking at your repo power)
he he he..
ok kiddding kixxi uncle.. repo +++ nice explanation...
besides i wanted to ask u.. do u know dvd region free software or word like tht.. can u give me some info for it if u know..
thanks in advance..
Thanks for the repo.
DVD Region Free is the software that you are looking for. This software not only removes region encoding, it also removes macovision and CSS.
Download it here. Unfortunately it is not free, costs $40. But if you have lots of (imported) DVDs to play and that too from various regions, then it is worth the investment.
As you must be aware, when you buy a computer DVD drive, the brand new drive is not set for any region. When you play your first region encoded disc, it asks you to set a region. Then this region is set. If you play a DVD from another region, you have to change the region again.
The region code can be changed 5 times only. After than the drive becomes permanently region locked to the last region set. Henceforth you will be able to play DVDs of that region only or region free (region 0) DVDs only.
This software bypasses this restriction.
Another advantage of this software is that you will be copy DVDs directly to PC without any ado. Basically, the PC thinks that the region locked PC is not so and is region free.
i think that making an image is the easiest option .... it would also mean that u can make an exact copy of the DVD later of you want
if preety were a good hand on comp she would have made an image of it after adding all the dvd videos in one..
Refer to the step-by-step guide here: http://www.indiabroadband.net/comput...vd-shrink.html (Guide: Backup DVDs using DVD Shrink)
Excellent information J4Kix. Added reps.
I was just looking for this, was just too lazy to ask.

The video_ts files - how large are they? I am just trying to figure out
how many dvds I can backup in the 320GB portable drive I bought recently.
Can I save in different quality levels with varying sizes?
