    Default Remote access solutions...help needed!

    hi all,

Hopefully in the near future, I shall be going abroad for my PG (MBA) studies. I will be carrying my laptop with me, but would also like to have remote access (file sharing, remote control, etc.) to my desktop at home.

I've used a number of web-based solutions such as Webex and Teamviewer for remote access in the past. My question is, should i just stick with these and configure them for permanent access or is it better to try a VPN solution?

A simple and hassle free solution would be appreciated. I don't really need a high security VPN or anything complex. Also, what are typical file transfer speeds between 2 peers connected thru this type of network?

    thanks!

Nothing to worry you need to setup VPN connectivity within your Laptop and Desktop in order to get this done... you can do this with OpenVPN free and open source VPN server its very easy and very effective.

Even in India pvt and Govt sector uses the same software for making VPN connectivity for their remote locations.

if you need any help then let me know.

Yes, you can also simply set-up Remote Desktop Connections if you have a version of Windows that allows you to enable this. You will then just need to make sure that the computer is connected directly to the modem so that it has a dynamic address instead of a static address so it can be accessed at all times.

Citrix is a very good idea. However, its also a very big investment. If you have the budget for it, definitely go for Citrix. Personally i think you won't be able to make a ROI justification since you have only 5 users and one location. I think you would be much better off with something like a sonicwall tz150 at your remote office. You should have a good firewall/VPN client at your main location already (I hope). That should be good. Just make a IPSec VPN tunnel between the two office and you will be able to share resources between the two office. Also be sure to have a big enough hard drive along the lines of Western Digital and the other guys just for good measure. Remote access just might be too good that you won't notice how much files you've breezed through.
