HD is the new center of dispute by large companies. The fall in prices on everything from plasma rather than LCD and the arrival of affordable players is a cake that nobody wants to discard. In the struggle to get a wireless HDMI standard for the moment we have two candidates. The first is WHDI (Wireless High Definition Interface), relatively new technology for connectivity of HD video (up to 1080i) without cables, providing links uncompressed delivering up to 3 Gbps on one channel of 40 MHz.
The range is 30 to 45 meters-including walls and was introduced at CES 2007 but is topical because Sony, Samsung, Hitachi, Motorola and Sharp have teamed up to support it, in search of a standard. It is developed by Israeli company Amimon. The 'but' is that WHDI supports HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), a digital rights manager this late in the HDDVD and Bluray.
The second technology vying to become a standard is . (WirelessHD | WiHD).
