Time is high for Indian I.T. giants to start a browser for both P.Cs and Mobile.. I am not feeling well with foreign browsers going on with Indian data..

please have your say on this..

in today's globalized world there is no such thing as foreign browser & it is not browser but the website you are connecting to which matters.

unlike operating systems like xp browser sends/receive data from/to websites & it is the website/connection which is responsible for keeping your data safe from/to your browser assuming no virus/malware infection at your end.browser itself is merely a medium.

you can't just beat Google and Firefox, they have some brilliant people in their stand from past years and making a new browser with such reliability, speed is very difficult.

@mickey,you are having many misconceptions about all this.a browser is used to made connection to a website, process its content & send/receive data.ideally a browser make connections only to the sites you are opening unless its behaviour is modified by some 3rd party software like those spyware search toolbars or some virus/malware but even in that case it is not the browser which steals your data but these virus/malwares/toolbars which steal your data from browser.

chinese govt is known to restrict free internet & what better way than to provide everyone with a modified browser bundled with spyware etc to monitor/control access but rest assured that all mainstream browsers are thoroughly tested & by default don't come with any bundled spyware etc.

P.S.indian IT companies expertise are cost reduction & process optimization not innovation.

Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

may b off topic, but I cant stop myself to share this: once I tried to log in to Facebook using UCWEB browser from mobile, Facebook asked me too many stuffs to confirm it is me! :P This is coz just like Opera Mini which uses Opera Turbo - compression technology UCWEB transfers all ur data via a chinese server! So BEWARE STOP USING UCWEB !

ucweb is not a mainstream browser but opera is.also if the connection is secure i.e.https using 128bit standard encryption then all your data is travelling in encrypted form over the connection so even if it gets routed through some 3rd party server it is still secure.

mainstream as the name suggests means something which is widely known & recognised.e.g.indian cricket team, english premier league teams are mainstream while some local team of a small town is not.

UCWEB is also a maintstream browser, and see, some gentleman in his post mentions how it fks up.

what we need is a hold on our browsing data..

Usage share of web browsers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Internet Explorer (43.2%)
    Mozilla Firefox (28.6%)
    Google Chrome (14.6%)
    Safari (6.3%)
    Opera (2.6%)
    Mobile browsers (4.7%)

do you see the name of ucweb?there are so many mobile browsers & all of them together accounts for 4.7% not to mention that almost all major mobile maker companies(nokia, sony, samsung,lg,htc etc)generally bundle opera mobile browser with their handsets.

I think this stat is based on volume of data browsed through web-browsers and mobile browsers, and not on page hits.
The truth maybe(i am not sure), data surfed through mobiles is quantity wise(no. of pages seen), is higher than those of web-browsers. Because not everyone has access to a p.c or a cyber cafe but now even a 2000/- stupid phone has java run environment, so mobile browsers are there.
People run Opera mini insanely. and its faster access than web browser slow internet at p.c
Facebook, orkut, indiatimes, rediff to count a few. there are millions of community services having their own wapsites because that percentage of users is high who have better mobile access or are checking on the run than desktop.

i am not here to indulge in unwanted arguments with my lovely friends or discuss regionalism.
what i want to know is clearly if using a web browser thats linking from a foreigner country is safe for our country's security? most of the data send through a web browser or a mobile browser is highly encrypted.. or compressed (in a mobile browser's case)..

    you answered your own question.
from one of my previous post
also if the connection is secure i.e.https using 128bit standard encryption then all your data is travelling in encrypted form over the connection so even if it gets routed through some 3rd party server it is still secure.
you are really being extra worried over a very small issue.

nation's security is not decided by browsers used & unless you are a close friend of dalai lama chinese don't care.if still concerned about security simply don't use mobile browser for sites you consider sensitive like bank, email etc.

when come to Internet, no matter how high the promise given, there is information leaking issue. To protect our privary from revealed, do not upload those information to the web. This is the safest to protect ourselves.

Like IE8 Google Chrome sucks at 178 MB along with demands of updated Active X, Java and Acrobat Reader, etc. of software and updates itself without permission of user. Firefox 7.1 is just 34 MB of software in which one can control updates and has no need of Java, Active X or Acrobat Reader. One can use Foxit in place of Acrobat Reader.

Yep, there should be some provision to stop automatic update other than disabling it from start up. But Chrome seems to be much stabler than FF these days. FF crash a lot (Chrome used to when it was new) and their updates are mostly eye wash. Every new Chrome update has something new to offer the latest one being multiple profile. But it won't matter in today's PC if you are using 150 MB for a program. In my PC, FF ithe main resource hoger eating my RAM and CPU. When I have large no. of tabs open, closing FF shows immediate result.

As much said about Indian and foreign browsers i wanna say that we have to accept the good things apart from dispute where it is India or foreign and we also needs to develop such things but if its only a quality matters.
