Thread: how to share my usb dongle internet with my other wifi devices.

Hello friends,

I need a little help. I use MTS usb dongle for internet on my laptop. I have a phone and tablet that have wifi capability. Now I want to use my MTS Internet for my phone and tablet thru wifi.

i dont know how to do that. Do i need a wireless router to be set up at home?

Please suggest which wireless router will help as i dont have DSL or MTNL/BSNL internet connection. i have an MTS USB internet which i want to share with my wifi enabled gadgets.

There are many routers that support USB modems. You can just plug in the router like cable in ADSL router and it will work in more or less the same manner.

You can also make one PC WiFi hotspot and connect others to it. You don't need to buy any hardware in this method, but that PC need to be on Windows 7 and the USB modem should be connected to it when you need internet on other devices.

first of all, Thanks for the quick reply. I use windows 7 ultimate. So you meant that if i have windoz 7 on my laptop then I can connect my android 2.2 and 2.3 devices without needing to use any router. right?

And if i choose to go with the router option then what should i ask for in the market. Is there a specific type or name to it?

if i am not mistaken, then there will be a router which will be set up and that usb dongle will be attached to my laptop and with my laptop's wifi the router will relay the internet further to android or windoz platformed devices. is it?

Yes, install Connectify on your laptop and devices in range will be able to access WiFi through it.

Router is a bit costly. In that case, you need to insert your modem into router which transmits the signal. By that way, you need not have to switch ON your laptop to access WiFi on other devices.

You can ask for a router which has option to use with USB modem.

i have installed connectify and i am using WPA/WP2 PSK security mode. Good thing is that it reflects in my phonez wifi scanner. but it does not connect. It keeps on reflecting obtaining IP address and then later it shows "Disabled secured with WPA/WP2 PSK"

You need to enter the password or use open in encryption type. Try this guide

I guess there is a software called Virtual router which serves for this purpose.I would reccomend you to switch on to any versions of windows 7 except the starter one.win 7 starter version is not configured for this.Check out this :
