    Default VPNs

Do you know what is VPN? Here's a short text regarding VPNs.

A VPN or Virtual Private Network is a method used to add security and privacy to private and public networks, like WiFi Hotspots and the Internet. VPNs are most often used by corporations to protect sensitive data.

Do you use VPN? When your VPN is enabled, what you do on the Internet?

I'm not sure how to start answering your thread as it asks a question - answers it - and ask another question again, on the same topic!?

Nonetheless, I'll try chip in -- if you go by the very definition - a virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, such as the Internet. So the first point to remember is, you are trying to access a "private network" as oppose to "internet", which is, from that per se, is an open network. VPN, as such, enables a computer or network-enabled device to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if it were directly connected to the private network, while benefiting from the functionality, security and management policies of the private network.

I don't really understand this. Can you elaborate please?
I agree with your definition, well done.

I don't use VPNs. I have no reason to use them.

I did not mean to offend you, in case I did - Sorry.

Actually, with that tiny title of the thread I expected there will be a question of nature 'what is VPN' and well, that's it. But you also gave a definition of the VPN - so after reading first two statements of your post I was not really sure what is expected out of this thread.

Third statement sounds like you've used VPN already.

Never mind, perhaps looked too much between the lines!

Kinda liked your avatar! Who is he?

Yes, I know VPN is known as a "Virtual Private Network" and its meant for secured internet browsing. But for me, it's of no use!
I have seen a lot of people who are already doing a misuse of VPNs, say for money making Android apps. I had also been told that using VPN is illegal, but I'm not sure if it is true. Anyways, there are many good VPNs for Android available on Google Playstore such as Hola VPN, Droid VPN, Super VPN etc.

I use VPN at work. Some of the things that we do over VPN include Video conferencing, Cloud storage and file sharing (no need to carry heavy laptops as everything is available over VPN.

    Yeah. Too much :P
That is Terry O'Quinn, my favorite actor. This is the picture from TV show "Lost". Very good TV show.

Regarding VPN, I've watched some videos on youtube and I know how to use it.

I see. Never watched Lost, but sounds interesting.

OTOH, if you really wanna try VPN - search OpenVPN on google and start from there. Good Luck!

I only know the word VPN means virtual private network but I do not really know the meaning of this.
My phone has the application called opera Max and once activated it says the VPN is managed by opera buy I do not get this. I once looked it up and it says that VPN can enable one to get free internet but is slower.
    Kindly elaborate further on VPN's.

I have used VPN's on many occasions over the last year. The first time, was due to an issue involving me being unable to pay a bill whilst being on holiday in Poland, the bank website blocked my IP as it was Polish, and not British. To resolve this issue, I downloaded a VPN on my laptop, changed IP to a British one, and paid the bill successfully.

Secondly, I sometimes use VPN's to bypass my colleges web filter, as it blocks sites such as YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, snapchat etc. And as I have no mobile data, I use my colleges WiFi to check them. I use aa free VPN called hotspot shield VPN.

I am still trying to learn how to use it because i wanted to access some banned websites. I live in an annoyingly conservative country and I want freedom in the internet. Oh I also want to be able to watch those Youtube videos that are not globally available.

Download "Hotspot Shield VPN" And change your IP location to a country such as the US, or UK via the application. This will unblock any banned content on the web, unless it's also banned in the country of the IP that you chose. However, if you chose US or UK everything, in theory, should be unlocked.

I think betternet and Hola are two good VPNs if you wish to see any content that is blocked in your country. Another good option is DroidVPN but it has very limited servers.

I've used betternet on my phone to unlock YouTube at college. It was very good. I'd also recommend hotspot shield VPN, as its very reliable and comes with a free trial.

I personally use the VPN to get in to certain pages that here, in my country, are restricted. But must be very careful because using vpn to enter certain pages is prohibited. There are several types of VPN and operation is also different.

For example the most common and free vpn works changing our Ip to a dynamic IP (like Hotspot Shield), this is the easiest to spot therefore it's not the safest. There are others that work changing our Ip to a fixed Ip (like HMA), this is the right and almost undetectable but must pay to acquire the service, and there vpn that work changing our geoloction and not our Ip.

I used VPN's to bypass restrictions on my internet connection in places like school or work if I'm using their own network to vrowse, most times I find VPN's to be stressful.

I do think there are some sites that do not accept VPN as I see it in their Terms of Use. So it may be a hassle to use one I am still thinking about using it though.

Yeah, you just have to remember to turn it off, for those sites, which will prove hard. I've been watching this Cyber crime show though and it's making me want to use VPN more and more.

How about when changing VPN when you intend to use in different countries? How is this possible? Someone suggested me VPN during the recent weeks but I have no idea how to use it.

Some of them make you pay for changing to specific countires, they all have funny rules and stuff, but I think SurfEasy, allows that.

Hhmmm. I admit I have less knwoledge about VPN. Honestly, upon learning that there's mostly payments, I think I should not avail of it. Hehe. Not even sure what is Surf Easy.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) lets you create a secure connection to another network via the Internet. When you connect any device to a VPN, it acts as if he were in the same network as the one with the VPN and all data traffic is sent securely through the VPN.

In addition, the VPN is a virtual private network as its name implies, therefore all traffic passing through the network is secured and protected from unwanted eyes. This can be very useful when we connect to a public Wi-Fi network. I use the all the time.

They can be very nice and can be very mean, it depends on how you approach them and the situation they are in, cause we are a very loud and rowdy bunch in general. I know I had a friend studying there, but he moved to the US.

Perhaps those people I had encountered were the nice ones. There were a lot of students here from Africa. Some were from Kenya, Sudan and other African countries.

Oh, I see. If I am going to use it in earning sites like those available in US, is it possible that it can be detected? I just want to try such site because US rates are higher than in my country.

I don't know exactly but you can give it a try, I wonder if it is possible to buy an ip address from the us, that will be only assigned to you. if that works, then it would be more beneficial in the long run.

I think you s houkd check on acquiring a vs based IP that won't change until the subscription is over, with that it is easier to use sites banned from your country.

Is it not complex to use? I think I should do further research before using it. I want to find how to use it step by step to make sure I would he doing the right thing.

The Wi-Fi that offer restaurants, bars and public places are not safe access. These networks are not encrypted. Anyone connected to it can intercept the data, usernames and passwords to log onto're sending your email or social networks.

Making an analogy, Wi-Fi open a coffee shop, it would be like a highway for clients running on Internet. But instead of traveling by bus, where you have privacy and anyone can see who you are, know what you read or what you write, you travel comfortably on your own VPN vehicle, where no one can see what you do, but driving on the same road (wireless open).

And please, when you are done researching I would love it, if you would educate me on your findings, but as a new user, your idea is wonderful and proactive.
