Default Can I use a second hand RAM in my new laptop?

I have a ten year old laptop (IBM Thinkpad) with me which is not functional now. I think I have upgraded its RAM from 1 GB to 3GB. Can I use that extra 2GB RAM in my new Toshiba Satellite laptop? What are the factors we need to check before using it again in another laptop?

I think it is not possible as my old laptop is more than ten years old. However, I just raised this question to clear my doubts. Can anybody guide me on this? Is there any market for second hand RAM?

Do you have a Facebook account? There are groups in Facebook that it meets people to sell second hands things. Moreover, You could try Ebay. In Facebook, You will meet people with old pcs that they have difficult to buy RAM, in special, DDR2 RAM. What is the system of your laptop?

Oh, that is really helpful. I never knew that there is a demand for old RAM as well. Thanks for the valuable suggestion. I think I need to check the system of the old laptop and explore the possibility of selling it.

So, I can have a second hand RAM on eBay, right. I am going to check for that too. I think in laptops all we can do is to insert one more RAM into it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think there is nothing wrong with buying second hand parts but you have to make sure it is in good condition. Try to buy parts in stores with good reputations so wont get scammed. I don't really trust online stores because I had been scammed before.

So there's two things you have to look out for.

One is the tech specs. Your newer laptop will probably have different technical requirements for RAM than your older one. That will prevent you from using the old ram in the newer laptop.

Two is the quality of used goods. RAM can be damaged if not handled correctly or even have a defect that causes errors when warm/cold or during certain operations. New with a warranty is the only way to have some protection against being cheated (especially in India).
