I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a contest? What sort of contest and how many members are interested?

OMG you are waiting for ideas? I was counting on you to come up with some thing brilliant!

Just wondering if we can offer some goodies instead of cash. May be an Android. Of course if we give them money, they can buy, but I think such ideas are doing rounds in many sites.

Top poster / thread starter will be good.

Thats just going to bring in loads of crap... We need to maintain some quality levels as well so sheer numbers shouldn't be the criteria in my opinion.

May be we can set a specific no. of threads. Say 1 thread per day and we select thread of the day. Those who do one thread per day for 10 days and does not get any prize can get a consolation prize or something (provided it is of good quality).

Fist have a poll -what should be the prize!
That will bring lot of interesting ideas. A product like graphic card or a budget android (bellow rs 10K) . Consolation prizes like 2GB DDR3 notebook Ram /4GB desk Ram like that.
A contest twice in year sure will liven up things.

Prize is certainly not an issue. There will be a budget and admin can either give cash or offer products of equal value. Let us decide what should be the contest nature. Because it should give all an equal chance and benefit the forum at the same time.

Highest poster would certainly lead to some spamming, maybe if possible we can filter our spam posts from legit posts.

Tutoials is a great idea and it would be very helpful for new members as well who come here for troubleshooting.

Well you can create a contest on many things for example:=
1st is contest for best logo.
2nd is contest of best referrals.
3rd is best solution provider.
4th Member of the month or best tutorial provider of the month.
etc.

We can get a good logo for around $ 5 - 10 by amateurs. They match to the quality of good designers. But that is a creative suggestion, we can get some graphics people active here who can help blogger on logos and banners.

We get a lot of members daily, the point is getting active members. Mostly referral contest bring friends of participants who may not even come back after registration.

Best solution provider is good. May be more people will be interested in creative suggestions to queries raised by members.

May be member of the week than member of month. Best tutorial is already under consideration. What do you guys think ? How often should we select winners ? Once a week ? or once a day (weekly winner may get a handsome price) ?

i doubt making logo would be good.

First of all, people using Linux won't be able to participate, second you can't expect people to learn Photoshop very fast and it won't be very fair contest.

Also, reffering members is also not good, it creates negative impression towards the forum, as in like, this forum is need of members and hence providing such contest for referals.

Linuz users can also participate.
There are many software which r used to create a logo.
we can also use online photoshop too.


If we talk about referring members den you can put a rule where all ur referrals must be active or something like that.

the quality and the edits of the logos scalable in PS is much more than that of softwares used in Linux.

And i don't think making logo is good, this is not a graphics forum anyways.

There are a few good image editing tools which work on Linux too.

with a topic every day say at 0800PM ( time block announced in Advance previous day)
Allow only one hour. Lock the thread at 0900PM
or disallow articles appearing after this time .
Select the best article minimum limit say 150 words..
Limit to Broadband forums. / ISP specific.

Next day New topic and timing say 0900PM to 1000PM etc
same as above.

Recycling of old articles not allowed .
one or 2 external links for further reference allowed..
No copy/paste allowed.

Two topics on Saturday and Sundays
Contest to run for say 2 weeks.
Select the top five out of 10 selected.

RESTRICT CONTEST to regular/active members ,
have been active in recent month. with at least 10 posts. ( say September or October 2011 before contest Date or before 15th Oct 2011.)

c'mon, after all every contest cannot be based on serious works

for starters, have simple contest.

Make an IBF FB page and to enter the contest, people have to like it and +1 it (google+).

This is only for members above 100 posts.

Choose 5 winners at random (then check for 100 post criteria, if he/she fails, remove that entry)

Run it for 15 days or so...

now after this, you can easily promote more contests..

random won't be good i think, we need to work in order to win, we don't need few people who have better luck :P

Well i would suggest some serious tasks would be a real deal as it will be requiring intensive effort in doing it.So, it will be quite interesting and satisfying.

I think we can decide a good contest format ourselves, Admin will be more than happy to implement it. And I am sure best joke thread won't be the one

Start a Best Product contest. People can create e-book for "Broadband How To" tutorials, review of all the broadband, telecom, datacard, and DTH providers currently in India; or car reviews, software reviews, laptop reviews, SEO guides, forum management, etc.. any information which can be made in the e-book format.. without infringing anyone's copyright.. The e-book can be any number of pages. A 2 page tutorial should also qualify for the e-book.

People can also make video tutorials and upload it individually or with the e-book.

We can also create other digital products like small but useful software like bandwidth optimizer, bandwidth monitor, torrent client, pc cleaner, website builder, etc.

Question is how will the forum benefit if these products start coming up. I guess people can atleast start signing up in huge numbers for the free products available to download in a new "Private Section" of the forum. The "Private Section" should be available after signing up initially. After it gets popular, Admin may change the settings to minimum number of threads/posts required to enter the "Private section".

After few years who knows.. if the quality, quantity of available 'products' is good and popular, Admin may start charging one time membership fee from the new members to access that private forum.

How to implement:

Make a "Private forum" available only to the members. People can create their own threads uploading the ebook, software, videos, etc or provide the download link from their sites/file hosting sites. Also, they can explain what the product is all about. They can also inform other friends through visitor/private message like:

This way people will start communicating with each other. This will help many to break the ice.



I liked Rajan's idea of driving the traffic through Facebook Fan Page for the contest. I know the code to implement it, and may help the Admin to run the Facebook Ads if he requires my assistance.

People can also be rewarded for the referrals or for driving the traffic to 'Like' the fanpage.

Time to upgrade the forum from information only to info-products site!
