-->Switch off your monitor when you are not looking at it ... atleast for 15 mins .. say for ex: While downloading

-->Dont use fancy screen savers ... Simple ones are just fine .

Are you sure that the blackness is due to your monitor over heating .. i am not so sure ....

Since I spend a lot of time on the computer, I always face the electric fan at the back of the monitor to prevent it from overheating.

The fan tip is very helpful. Many times people forget to keep space between the computer vents. My sister was always wondering why her computer was always very hot. No wonder why! It was right against the wall not allowing the air to properly flow. This may seem obvious but many people that live in crammed spaces tend to forget that.

I have never seen a case of monitor overheating.

The only explanation I can think of is that you may put a plastic dust cover on top of the monitor. This must be removed when monitor is in use. You are blocking the air vents otherwise.

In summer times in hot areas sometimes Monitor tend to overheat ... while CPU is under heavy utilization [graphics].....This is more so in CRTs ... i think the thread starter[manoj] works with a CRT

yes having the Dust cover ON or Keeping the back of your CPU [fan] too close too the wall aids in this build up of heat .....

Air vents[small holes] are provided in CRT monitors to allow heat to pass out ...
I dont think aiming a fan at the monitor is a good idea ....

Generally internal fans are provided inside the CPU to drive hot air from the inside to the outside ...Without a fan the hot air still comes out ..but the process is much slower

Aiming a fan at the monitor(CRT) not only inhibits[gets in the way] of hot air coming out but also drives dust particles inside .

If you have an LCD/TFT monitor then i dont think it should be a problem

Since CRTs (like the name says), has a picture tube made of glass, high temperature could lead to worse situations.

Please take the CRT to an authorized technician, let them check the reason for the heat up, and fix the issue with the display too...
