the best way to do that is to take the PSU to a local repair shop and get the voltages in all terminals checked.

If so if you want to upgrade your card you will have to upgrade your whole system as your motherboard does not have a PCI-E2 or a PCI-E slot [Refer to my PCI thread]

As all the components are attached to your motherboard you ll end up upgrading your whole system .

This is not a good time to upgrade your system imo as Due to previous years's Technology boom Technology keeps changing every few months/years .

AGP has been outdated by PCI-X , PCI-E and then PCI-E2 and by 2010 Intel is planning to release PCI-E3 based motherboards .

So i would recommend you to wait till PCI-E2 based motherboards become mainstream in India .[Atleast 2-3 years] Before you upgrade .

You can upgrade your ram for now ... it ll def give you a performance boost

There are often many 'better' things...
But, there are some that you can't choose (many reasons)....

    Thanks!

Can you suggest me a good Graphics Card compatible with my other
    components ?

    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ (1.9 GHz)
    Mother Board: ASUSTek A8V-VM
    SMPS: Intex ATX-200W (ATX2.03)
    Chip-set: VIA VT8251

It can't be higher than Rs. 3,000. Else I won't be able to upgrade my RAM.

I didn't choose it. My mechanic did, 2 years back. It's busted now. I need to buy a new one. The last thing I did was try to play Prince Of Persia 4 (I think that's the reason).

u need a minimum pix.shader 3 supported card to play POP (latest).

    @Archer
I dnt want u to waste ur money on junk, so I m not goin to suggest u any card under 3k.
If u want a mid-level card (like mine) and want to play games then buy gf8600gt.
the lowest prices would probably be from palit............."Palit GF-8600GT 512 MB DDR3" would be priced around 3.5k . the 256 mb version would be cheaper.

if u want a little more brand glare, go for "XFX 8600GT 256MB DDR3 ". this should be around 4k. Dnt buy anything lower than this card.
upgrade ur ram to 2gb. u will be able to play many games at moderate settings.

afterwards, when i7/striker extreme/8800gt would be cheaper and u will have more money to spare, then u will buy those. now settle for these.

one more thing, change ur PSU. buy a standard 450/500watt psu (intex/frontech/ any standard brand), would cost around 600/- at most.

8600gt is a good choice .... u dont have to go in for xfx if you have financial constraints

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't care much about brands so which is better
    XFX 8600GT 256MB DDR3 or Palit GF-8600GT 512 MB DDR3 ?
(I don't know if Palit is available near my place)

Would that be fine with my other components. Also I am confused of DDR3 as I use DDR2 RAM. Is that different ?

I was also thinking of buying new SMPS. Thanks for suggesting that too.

no need to worry abt ur ram, it doesnt bother the grafixcard ram.

so, u have three items to buy.
    XFX 8600gt 256mb
    total of 2gb ram
    one 450/500watt psu of 500-600/-

DDR3 is faster, but requires a new mobo which supports it, and u can't have both kinds of ram at the same time.

    ^ Agreed

    summing up

    --> Palit is good

--> Dont bother with DDR3 system ram [its different]

--> A gfx card with DDR100 ram will also fit into your pc as long as it is PCI-E card . The gfx card's ram is referred to as v-Ram[Video Ram]
