yep, DX10 is present in all versions of Vista.
shadow, u have a misconception of PCI-E2, dude, even if u buy a PCI-E2 GFX card, it will still run on PCI-E slot, coz it's backwards compatible.
yes 8800 is an outdated GFX card, 4850 is advisable over 8800. but still people having 8800 can play latest games at decent resolutions, so if u can get a good deal on second hand 8800 then go for it or else go for 9800/4850 brand new ones.

Buddy shadow knows that its backward compatible. He has a good amt of knowledge on these things.
He suggests an 8800GT over a 9800GT bcos they are the same. Only thing is many ppl (like u) dont know that and end up paying more for the same thing.

But after buying a 4850, i m feeling that its a total waste buying mid-high end cards. They will get outdated in 6months.

yeah really?oh my i really didn't know that, how informative post that is! :24:
do u work for AMD-ATi that u can tell it is going to get outdated in 6 months? if yes then u r awesome, coz u saved me 8.8K coz after exams i was gonna buy that card, +1 awesomeness to u.
and as for ur 8800GT/9800GT spoof and 4850 being a total-waste card here's one performance chart comparing them GPU's with Sapphire 4850

it's from TE, if u want the review link i can also post that, but i haven't read through the rules so i amafraid of posting links to other forums :P
rest is up to u to decide which is a waste card and which is not.

I m sry bro i did not understand anything u said. My bad.
What i meant is this is not a good time to buy. ATI4850 is almost at its end of life. They will be replaced by the RV790 in march. I have many reviews buddy, no need to give benchmarks .
Now, Assume that u buy a 4850 for 8.8K. 1 month later, RV790 will be out and 4850 will not be produced any more.
Few months later, u get overheating problems, u go look for coolers, cant find any. These heat issues are pissing off. So w8 for the cooler 40nm parts.

Now, coming to 8800GT, if u get it at 7k and a 9800GT for 8K, do some research and find out the performance difference and tell me which one u would go for.

Would somebody please tell what the under mentioned spec's refer to.I read @ShAdOwCoN thread about the various card types and make etc. but could not make out the difference in the mentioned below slots .............

    PCIe x1: 1 Slot
    PCIe x16 (Graphics): 1 Slots

Under which category does these expansions slots fall .

to put in simple words both are PCIe slots. the PCIe 1x slot is small(short). Usually used for high end Audio cards. PCIe 16x slot is longer. Its used usually for graphic cards.
    have a look at this:
