screen size - 17" CRT (may switch to 15"/17" TFT, so please mention for this one too)
budget - upto Rs. 5k (but that doesnt mean that i wont buy the cheap ones).

Get Palit Nvidia 9600GT card, it comes around 6k
but its worth it, it can play all the latest games at high settings.

    For cheaper alternative,
    you can get Nvidia 9500

THe only good ATI cards which are worth a buy are HD4850 and HD4870, which are way out of your budget.

If you want ATI, then you can look at HD3850

Can u plz tell which PSU u have ?

In case u have a PSU without a pci-e power connector, get the ATI4650. Its faster than the 9500GT in most games. But slower than 9600GT. As ur willing to spend 5k, both PSU and GFX card can not fit in that cost. A good PSU will cost u atleast 3.5k.

PS: The ATI4650 does not require a pci-e connector. The 9600GT does require one.

Have a check on Palit Radeon 4670 Super, this will set you back around 6K but worth every penny. Especially if you want to use the HDTV option at the later date. With this card you can use the LCD TV as a monitor too

Probably a late reply but Rather go for Nvidia 9600 GT (needs power supply) than 9500.

This clasification is done based on 3D mark scores.
If u pick any of the 3, u will get unplayable frame rates in most of the games at high setings. If u lower the settings,u may be able to play.
In all the cases the GPU should not be the deciding factor.

^^ Which GPU would u recommend for playing the latest games at medium settings? I am speaking in context with laptops.

i dont really like lenovo.Giv the model number na. Strt new thread if u want.

    well,thats a tricky one.
I would suggest not gaming on a laptop.
But a 9600M or a ATI3650/70 should allow u to game. My frend plays COD4 maxed out on his XPS1530. It has a 8600GT on it. But he plays GTA4 at low settings.

well .. dell studio is also my top choice at this moment ... but there are a few issues ...

    1) no option for ubuntu/free dos ... i.e. i will have to pay the extra amount for vista which i dont at all want to

    2) drivers for only vista are provided with dell studio ... even on their website they dont provide drivers for other versions of windows ...

well going for 9600 gt , but i am not been able to find palit, all i get here is xfx or zotek or some dumb companies, so most probably will go for xfx but as it need sli smps (ex. - cooler master) , so have to wait for some time (to arrange 3.5k for smps )

Buddy there is another option, if ur not a NV fanboy.
    Chk this:
It does NOT require a 6pin power connector. Hence no need for a new SMPS.
    Palit ATI Radeon HD4670 512MB GDDR3 Super Edition AE/46700+0551

Its performance is on par with 9600GT.

Also, u can find Palit here:
Video Cards - TechShop.in - Buy Tech Online Now!!!
