I'm not from Bangalore... I'm from mumbai.. And here 1 TB is for 7-8 K.. But i've friends in bangalore..Originally Posted by kirankumargb
Oh ok sure you can ask them .... its very cheap compared to there even if it is costly it wont be as 7 or 8 k surely not max 4k
Sure...Thanks for the info
Appreciate that..
To tell the truth even I find these prices to be strange. When I enquired, it was like rs. 3400 for 500 GB, and rs 6700 for 1 TB. At present, I can get the 500 GB one for about 2900 - 3000. So how is it that in some places the 1 TB HD costs just four to five hundred rupees more?
^^^^ u guys are telling the prices of external drives ?
We think so...Originally Posted by newprouser

I think you all got confused, as i had clearly mentioned external word in second page post, it's not my fault that nobody cared to see it and mention so many posts just arguing for its rate. Internal 500Gb is very much cheaper in delhi also around 2600=00
Yeah, the prices that I quoted were of internal drives. External drives are way too expensive (as far as I know) - more like a 1 TB internal costs the same as a 500 GB external. Prices may be different, but those variations would be slight, I doubt it could be more than rs. 500. Maybe I should come to Delhi or wherever you guys live and buy my drive from there? Or maybe I should just start a business, buying from Delhi and selling here in Ahmedabad...![]()
oh in that case i am sorry i quoted for internal drives....
but even if its external drive : what i did is bought a internal HDD and also bought a casing for it..thats all casing will cost around 500 RS and your externat HDD is ready for use ...... just plug in to USB and use it....
are you people talking about some other type external drive...?![]()
^^ takin about branded external drives
oh ok will confirm the price and let you people know it tomorrow...
So lot's of confusion here... Well guys tell me what would be good option for me.. A branded external drive or internal drive with casing???
Branded External drives are better option then Purchasing Seperate Hard Disk and Casing due to inferior quality of local 3.5" casings. And External Branded Hard drives are coming with 5 years Warranty ( seagate, Maxtor) same as for internal Ones.
Seagte 500 Gb External Freeagent Desk - Rs.3900=00
Seagte 1 Tb External Freeagent Desk - Rs.6400=00
The rates are in Delhi( approx including taxes) and may vary dealer to dealer as you all know peripheral rates fluctuate everyday and sometimes in a same day they fluctuate.
The internal Hard drive seagate or any other wil be around 2600=00 for 500 Gb and casing is around Rs. 500 for 3.5", but their quality is not good and didn't liked it, i was using it with 3.5" 160Gb hard disk, i sold it to one of my friend and purchased Seagate External 500 Gb hard drive. Yes Branded external hard drive are expensive but quality wise and appearnce wise they are better.
I agree that Branded ones are better in terms of quality. I bought a local casing merely coz i already had an old HDD, but it isn't very good. Sometimes it wasn't getting detected as a USB.
The only good thing is that i can take out HDD anytime and use it in my old system.
Got a 1 TB drive; its ST31000333AS.
Its an Internal drive, and cost Rs. 6200. Maybe it would be cheaper in other places like Delhi, but here this is what it cost; maybe the price could have been brought down by another 200 Rs. if I had contacted a bulk dealer or something.
No more tension about lack of disk space! And it works smoothly, hasn't slowed down the computer or anything.
Also installed more RAM. Earlier I had 1 GB RAM (512 X 2), but my motherboard has only two RAM slots. I installed a new 2 GB module in one slot, and left one of the 512 MB ones in the other, but the computer wouldn't detect more than 2 GB; then I consulted the MB manual and saw that it only supported up to 2 GB :31: Didn't have any option here, so I gave the two 512 MBs to the computer guy who'll try to sell them. I've heard of something called USB RAM, which is maybe a pen drive that works as a RAM, I don't know for sure. Not that I really need more, but still more would be better, especially since I've installed Vista, and RAM is cheap (the 2 GB one cost rs. 1000).
