under normal circumstances, it wont be any problem, since electrical charges rarely get near the cpu if its not kept beside a CRT monitor.
but its worth the protection, also the airflow will be more streamlined once the case will be covered... in an uncovered cpu, the case exhaust fans will lose their purpose. the reason i just uncover the front, more air gets in this way.

Well i do not have any extra cooling fans in the PC from which i am typing. This was bought back in 2001, and the only fans running on it are SMPS Fan and CPU Fan. Considering my situation, do u think it might pose a problem?

u dont need to even open the case in this case... yup my setup is like yours too, so there will be stagnant air inside the case if u open it. there shud be air flowing.... u can also use the various temperature measurement s/w to have an idea of the heat.

The processor temps always hover about 44*C and the HDDs temps hover about 45~49*C. I noted these temps when the case was kept open.

Well by same i meant a difference of 1~2*C. It doesnt make much of a difference, considering that i keep the PC in an always AC room and i keep the case opened up..

One is not supposed to keep the side panel open. It is true in the case of pc air cooling, lower the air turbulence, better chance of air circulating around the components properly and then pushed out via exhaust, but how will air circulate properly in one direction if the side panel is open?

    Eh??

My post was for The Sorcerer. Since my PC does not have any extra cooling fans, i was curious about his opinion.

I was impressed by his articles on PC power ratings and knew the guy was a pro in the field. Hence posted so as i value his advice too.

Why do i get the feeling everyone is being hostile to me this day?

imo, there was not need for it, since a poster always scrolls up a bit to see whats going on, i always do so... if he is a pro, he shud also... no hostility, just my feeling.

...and end up paying up bills. Higher the efficiency= lesser the power loss between AC-DC conversion there save some power and bit money on the bills. Buy better fans for inlet and outlet will push more air in and push out hot air out. Get cable ties and get them aside. These are much cheaper options than an AC in the long run.

True. I am thinking of installing additional fans in the system.

Here's the thing, more fans doesnt mean more air pushed in or pushed out. Sometimes side panel fans do more harm than good. Temperature fluctuations is not that serious but for an overclocker it matter a lot when running 24 hour orthos stress test. Have 2 fans with equal cfm for front and back, tie the cable together, remove dust between fans, heatsink, mobo tray, the other side panel, vents from the psu and between the case fan and the case. Having a bottom psu case helps for overclockers as wel since they come with the wents on the base where usually the psu fans occupy space- provided the exhaust fan is on the bottom. The air sucks in and the air is pushed out. That's why case like coolermaster 690 is a pretty famous case for functionality and straightforward.
