APC 500 VA , running rock solid for last 3.5 years,
last year I opened the back and connected another battery in parallel .
Now I am getting about 30-40 mins of backup with the following load

    AMD 64
    k8v-x board
    2.5 GB RAM
    nvidia 7600 512 MB-with external power connection
    3 HDDs
    Pinnacle TV tuner
    2 optical drives
    4 extra fans(one 200ma + two 100ma-one 75ma)
    17" CRT

Better go for the models with auto shutdown support (models above 650VA range).

    EXIDE 12V-7.2AH (ampere/hour) costs somewhere around 850/-
if you go for a cheaper one then it will cost somewhere from 600-650/-

Another big factor is the place from where you buy, the dealer.

    Prices vary.
