Default Cabinet Fan, How to install, inside or outside?

    Hi Friends,
I purchased a cabinet fan to keep lower my cabinet temperature, now i am puzzled. How to install it, what the function of it, to send air inside the cabinet or to exhaust air from cabinet to outside. I can install it both the ways, so which one is correct. Processor fan sends air from outside to processor inside, is it same with cabinet fan too.

    2) I installed a SAMSUNG 250GB Hard disk, now my processor fans rotate at 4200RPM & Processor temperature is always aboove 95 degree celcius, is it normal, i can hear a lot of processor fan sound, earlier it was never like that. Also i applied a heat sink compound which i purchased for Rs 15 which i applied to the processor, where's the problem , why fan is rotating so fast due to hard disk or due to heat sink.

More than two cabinet fans are not necessary unless you are operating your PC in extreme hot conditions (even then, the extra fan may not really help).

The power supply already has a fan and there is a chassis fan. The CPU has one more fan.

It is better that you keep the box in a place that allows good ventilation. Also, open the chassis once in six months or so and clean the dust inside by a vacuum blower (not the suction, user the blower function).

-> cabinet fans are used to exhaust hot inside air to the outside

-> This is the same reason why more than 2 cabinet fans are completely useless

-> Having 4 cabinet fans will actually turn out to be counter productive i.e it ll retain heat and not help in cooling it

-> Accumulated dust inside your cabinet will increase the amount of heat that is retained inside your cabinet and will reduce the effectiveness of fans and passive heat sinks

    ).
I am having only one fan which i purchased, i don't have two cabinet fan.
also i have a query, my computer is almost ON for nearly 15 hours a day, so would it be better to completely remove one side of a cabinet. Or using a cabinet fan and the covers closed is better.

As I said, there are two fans already in most computers - one fan in the power supply unit and one attached to the computer chassis.

there surely some problem with your processor temperature, 95 F is fine but 95 C is way too high.

Possibly the problem may lie with the thermal paste you applied.

What is your processor. I'm guessing.its P4 or Dual Core.

Its P4, and the fan never used to rotate at such high speed, what should i do, should i remove the paste. Is it rotating at such high speed due to the new hard disk ?

there maybe another cause for that too.

The processor fan runs fast when there's a huge processing load on the processor.

You can check the processor load from "Alt+Ctl+Del" . If its high, then its natural that fan is running fast. The reason for this maybe because of a new software, which is processor intensive, or because of lots of sopftware running in background.

since your processor is old, and new softwares are quite demanding, its quite natural for it to get heated up.

First you please check the above and give feedback here.

Just because new software is more demanding that does not mean processor will burn more 'calories'.

The processor will simply work to the best of its capacity. The 'demanding application' will simply run slowly.

    My guesses are:

    a) too much dust accumulation in the whole box and especially around the CPU
    b) heat sink is not in proper contact with the cpu
    c) not enough ventilation - lack of space from the wall to the cabinet.
    d) possibly the cpu fan may be faulty and running at low speed.

My desktop is also a P4. It was purchased in 2002. The P4 CPU never crosses 32° C.

Na, I didn't mean that. When the demand on processor is low, the processor works at lower clock speed and consequently lower heat and lower fan speed, and vice-versa (ie it works at its rated clock speed)

Running a processor at high clock speeds allows for better performance. However, when the same processor is run at a lower frequency (speed), it generates less heat and consumes less power. In many cases, the core voltage can also be reduced, further reducing power consumption and heat generation. This can conserve battery power in notebooks, extend processor life, and reduce noise generated by variable-speed fans. By using SpeedStep, users can select the balance of power conservation and performance that best suits them, or even change the clock speed dynamically as the processor burden changes.

Check Out this, I got the below information from a software called Everest
    .

    --------[ EVEREST Home Edition (c) 2003-2005 Lavalys, Inc. ]------------------------------------------------------------

    Version EVEREST v2.20.405

Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail)
    Date 2009-06-07
    Time 21:25

    --------[ Sensor ]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Sensor Properties:
Sensor Type SMSC DME1737 (SMBus 2Eh)

    Temperatures:
    Motherboard 43 °C (109 °F)
    CPU 42 °C (108 °F)
    Aux 74 °C (165 °F)
    Seagate ST380817AS 43 °C (109 °F)

    Cooling Fans:
    CPU 4199 RPM

    Voltage Values:
    CPU Core 0.90 V
    +3.3 V 3.35 V
    +5 V 5.13 V
    +12 V 12.13 V

Debug Info F 06 05 FF FF FF FF FF FF
    Debug Info T 2A 2B 4A 81
    Debug Info V 00 73 C3 C5 C2

Now my BIOS show 95 degree celcius, maybe it shows the AUX temepature,
    Now this question arises, that

    Q) What does the "Aux" temperature shown on the Computer / Sensor page mean?
A#10: There is no standard for sensor registers layout, so the "Aux" temperature could show the temperature of the CPU or the motherboard, or might be a non-connected wire of the sensor chip, and so it could show a bogus value.

this answer i got from Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

Even if no programs are running even in background, and my CPU performance is just 10-15%, even then the fan rotates at such high speed.

I am uploading a HTML file, it contains all my computer info.

    a) no dust is accumulated inside cabinet as i cleaned it with blower 3 days before.

    b) about the heat sink, i am not sure, my cousin brother applied it on the processor, the processor fan is tight.

    c) right now, my cabinet one side cover is open. i removed it as i got scared by seeing the processor temp in BIOS

    d) CPU fan is running at almost 4000RPM. it very high already.

And please answer my question, should i let the cabinet cover open, or should i close it as my computer runs for 12hours a day

don't worry about anything other than CPU,HDD and MOBO temperature, for some reason, they are wrong most of the times !!

PS: Your CPU seems quite fine

Goin by the current readings, your system is fine. No need to keep it open

Thanks buddy, i too think so, now i got another software, its called speed fan. It shows this
Now i want to know, why the processor fan is rotating at 4500RPM even when no other program except google chrome is running. and whats this remote temperature. its shown red means dangerous.

    Goto desktop. Press alt+ctrl+del.

Now goto the performance section. wait for 10-15 seconds. take a screenshot and post it here.

PS: DON"T use speedfan's fan speed control feature to lower your CPU fan speed, you'll cause damage to it.

yeah, i know, i am not going to alter fan speed. i just wanted to see the temperature details so i downloaded the software. I have uploaded the screenshot of task manager.

I have a cabinet fan. so should i use it in the cabinet. Won't it put load on the SMPS.

Normally if there are a lot of those peaks or if its constantly high, the fan will keep running faster.

I don't of any particular reason why it would be so (lets hear others suggestions), but i'd recommend a full anti-spyware scan (and an antivirus scan too if your in doubt about it).

Ur BIOS is reporting wrong temps. It can happen. Dont bother about ur temps. Does ur PC restart when u use some heavy application ?

now its fine, from last 2 days its working perfectly, and its ON for 12 hours per day but not shutting on its own. I don't use heavy application. i use just bit torrent most of the times. and i don't let unnecessary softwares running unnecessary.

Actually the main problem why it was shutting down was because of new hard disk, it had a raw(kaccha) partition. thats why the system was shutting off. after formatting all the hard drives, the computer became stable.

    ^^hmmm...
its a lesson now..i think guys must see this...

this happened with my comps in cyber cafe, i was terrified. later on i saw that i did the hell outa my comps..formatted again all of them with sober partition,
because of this phenomena most of my comps were burning..
thanks to a friend who told about this..the mechanic did everything to make me visit him again..

    @np this happens...
when the disks are not partitioned in the proper way...

Even i now i have a single problem, the processor fan, it rotates at 4500rpm evrrytime & never comes below 4000rpm. Whats the problem with this.
