| which is best , actually depends on your needs. Simply put if you need it to be portable then its gotta be lappy otherwise its a desktop. - durability both are the same IF handled properly. only difference is that its easy to replace components in a desktop without help from technitian. - features Again they are the same, if same hardware is used. But extra internal hardware cannot be added later. like TV tuner card, graphics card etc. whatever you want , you have to decide before buying , then buy the model having those fecilities. - power ordinary laptops are designed to use lower power for maintaining battery life. but for similar hardware configurations, the difference will be lesser, more so in case of gaming laptops. - cost For the same cost, you can get a higher configuration in desktop model rather than a laptop. - over all performance Purely depends on the configuration you buy. |

| A desktop if you are not bound to be mobile. Reason : Cost is lesser, you can add hardware, easy to maintain/repair |

Rep Power: 0 | Heck, a laptop tends to spoil even the most disciplined supersages residing in himalayas, use it at your own risk. For once you taste the comfiness of a laptop, I bet you will never return to a desktop. Happened with me Decided to pass a uber deskie config for an entry level dell precision lappie. |

| Platinum Member | After using a laptop, it is difficult to get back to a desktop. But I using a docking station at work where I have a full size kb, large TFT and mouse. So in a way it feels like a desktop. |

| Senior Member & Mod | Desktop is more durable than laptop. If you can get a better desktop than its far more powerful than the lappies. The lappies on the other side are mobile, so its like that. I prefer desktop at home. I don use my laptop inside house. I prefer lapt on terrace and whenever i am outside city. |

Rep Power: 1 | If there is not cost issue then undoubtedly a laptop is much better then a desktop. Low power consumption Durability is there ( IMB Laptops) More Features Easy to use Mobility You can work for 2-3 hours on battery not possible in case of laptop High speed So the problem is just cost and nothing. |

Rep Power: 5 | if you require applications such as compiling the program you have downloaded from svn then laptop will not help you much as latest features & the best configuration of day can't be found on them. |

Rep Power: 0 | - durability In robustness, both are equal if handled properly. - features desktops are generally more powerful than a laptop of the same cost and also desktops can be upgraded while laptop upgrades are very hard to impossible. Laptops are much more portable however lan party desktops are also emerging in mobilty(look for lan party in google) - power laptops are designed to consume less power than desktops - cost desktops are more cost effective than laptops in the sense that you get more perfomance out of a desktop than a similarly priced laptop. however if mobility is what you are looking for, then definetly a desktop - over all performance Desktop's perform much better but laptops are far superior in mobility |

Rep Power: 10 | I was an ardent fan of Desktops... But after using the Notebook for over an year now, I will probably never go back to Desktops... It's a pain in the ass to sit in front of the Desktop Computer in the Office... I would recommend to go for Desktop only if you are a gaming freak... The option to upgrade the Desktop is what makes the difference! |

| Platinum Member | Durability As NPU said, depends upon handling. But since a laptop is, well mobile, it would be more prone to rougher handling. Consequently, it may be less durable. But believe me, that laptop or desktop will become obsolete much faster before breaking down completely. So this should not be a major issue. Features A desktop is bound to have more features especially when cost is considered. Power Anyday, laptop will consume much less power. A laptop has low powered devices so that they do not drain the battery when not on AC. Cost Advantage desktop. Desktop will be less costly anyday. Well it should be put in proper perspective. A 45K desktop will have more features and computing power than a 45K laptop. Over all performance It all depends. Laptop offers mobility and hence can perform at any place - simply because you can carry it with you. But it all depends upon the kind of use you want out of the machine. For graphics and designing, a desktop is better. For business use, laptop is better.
