    Unhappy Pendrive Problem

I use pendrive to hear songs in my car. Last month I loaded some songs into my pendrive from a very old CD. (Didn't do a virus check.) For sometime it worked fine, but now it is giving me problem, most of songs doesn't work anymore, car system hangs offten, works again only after i remove the pendrive from the slot and then reinsert it. I tried to scan the pendrive but every time I start the scanning programme, system hangs. I even tried to format the pendrive but system is denying the request.

Is it the end of my pendrive era??
or there is still some hope?

What is the message you are getting when trying to format the pen drive?

Viruses cannot get transmitted via media files. Also even if the pendrive is infected with a virus, it cannot get transmitted to a car audio system. Virus affect the operating system - the car audio system does not have any software that will get affected by pen drives.

    change to DOS prompt
    type
    DEL (ERASE) [d:][path]filename [/P]

where in place of [d:] give the drive name for your pen drive and in place of file name give "*.*"

if you have sub-directories, repeat separately for each directory.

    DOS Command: DEL (ERASE)

Manish, if you can just try to format again and tell us the exact error message shown, it will be helpful in finding the problem.

    ^^the most correct statement.

I think car system is just like a tv cd player where there is no software like computer. I think you should compress the files to 48kbps and with stereo phone voice.

If you use Punto, There would not be any proble..You just say "Start the song" it will automatically start the song, no matter whether there's media in it or not :tt2:

Joke apart, Check for write-protection also, And try to give exact error message

Just tried Dos method, its says couldn't detect the drive, later it detected, then couldn't delete the file, track Invalid.

Tried formating. The process completes till 100% but afterwards a message appears, Formatting could not be performed successfully. I Explored the drive everything was still there.

My IT guy says, its because of bad sectors, don't know what the hell does that means

I am unable to delete or add any file to my pendrive.:crying:

The pendrive is under warranty period, but warranty is against manufacturing defect don't know will they replace this because of "bad sectors".

Use Tuneup utilities or CCleaner. Both has facility to erase files permanently.

By looking at the error message,I too feel what your friend says is right. It basically means that your drive is physically corrupted (at electronics level).

I really hope that its not a chinease one coz u'll always have problem with that !!

I discussed tuneup utilities with him, He check the drive, he says the problem is with track and not the software.

Does that means the only way out is replacement?

i'm suspicious of damage coz of these reasons:-

    > u say its a new co, so most proabably its not an established co., e.g a cheap chinese product.

    > i haven't yet heard of 'branded' pendrives ever having a problem such as your. so maybe it supports the prev suspicion.

there are two things u can try,

    > formatting from linux or a purely dos mode.

    > try to get replacement.

McAfee's Avert Labs had exposed a new virus in the wild, W32/Realor.worm that modifies all of the Real Media files it comes across 2006.Also any embeddded system can have virus theoretically but i dont know how mush of a microprocessor is there or not.You should try using an intelligent partitioner like Qpated or Gparted. My transcend pendrive was giving me similar trouble on windows but I fomatted it as ext3 & then as fat32.Ask any of your friend using linux.
