Default Mic not working - Issue with motherboard

When I connect the mic & headphone to my PC. The headphone is working but the mic is not working. I also checked the headphone & mic with my friend's laptop, the mic it working in his laptop.

The motherboard I am using is Intel Dg31gl. I have the audio driver (Realtek Audio Driver) installed.

I guess there's some issue with the motherboard but i am not sure about it. I bought the motherboard 11 months back. I have the warranty so I can change the motherboard. But before that I need to confirm that the issue is with motherboard. Kindly provide your inputs in this issue.

In control panel, check the default device for sound recording. In Yahoo messenger, use the audio wizard to check the mic.

Try switching off HD Input from RTHDCPL or BIOS Setup. That should solve your problem!

    Default Troubleshoot Microphone

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot the microphone.

    1. Ensure the microphone is selected as the input device and that the volume is not set too low by following procedure:

    1. First, double-click the volume icon in the Taskbar to open the Advanced Volume Control.
    2. On the menu bar in the Advanced Volume Control, click Options.
    3. On the Options menu, click Properties.
    4. In the Properties window, in the Show the following box, ensure Microphone is selected.
    5. Click the OK button.
    6. In the Advanced Volume Controls window, under Microphone, ensure Mute is not selected.
    7. Adjust the volume slider to the desired level.

NOTE: Some sound cards may have advanced options for the microphone adjustment.

    2. Ensure the microphone is connected correctly.

NOTE: Refer to the documentation that came with your computer for the proper location of the microphone jack.

    3. Reinstall the sound drivers.

    Operating System: Windows XP

It worked man. Thanks. The front mic option in the below window was not checked, that's the reason mic wasn't working. After I have checked that option, the mic is working. But it seems I have to do this every time (checking this option) for using mic.

I'm glad that it worked. I had similar issue few months back. In my case, Mic was "Mute".

Mute mic doesn't mean that the mic is not working. It only means that the sound spoken into the mic will not come back through the speakers...
And, I thought probably thread starter had an issue with the HD Audio not working through the front panel of most Cabinets. In that case you have to disable Jack Detection or do what I mentioned earlier!

Most of the time, it is just in the settings on both the sound driver app and the control panel settings. If all things don't work, just buy a usb sound card and kiss your problems goodbye.

Personally, I use MoblePre USB because I am a musician. It is a soundcard though. It's a little cheaper now than when I got it. It's a USB based device. The sound is better than most sound cards I have heard. It has some anti distortion features (if it's really loud).
