Sound

1. Is your mic off. If not put it in mute
2. Are audio drivers alright

Hanging

1. Are you playing a scratched disc
2. Does your file have some errors. Do all of them (even new) show this problem.
3. Which player do you use ? Try another (Say VLC)

MY DRIVERS ARE FINE.
and i used GOM, VLC ,DIVX players for viewing

i downloaded movie / copied from NEW DVD and played directly from HDD so no scratch issue overthere.

Some files may show similar behaviour. Are you sure that you tried multiple files/ movies, which used to work earlier ? Try a new one.

Say download a file from youtube and try playing it.

It doesn't matte whether it's big filesize..The thing you mentioned can be one of the reason or the file itself is damaged little bit.

K-Lite Codec is one of the great codec and you don't need to install different programs to play different file format. It's all in one.
