However with the success of gaming consoles such as Sony's PlayStation Series and Microsoft X box Series, the PC gaming companies are headed towards India, Gaming is a huge industry in India, even if 75% or so belongs to the pirated section, but that is software and hardware is different altogether. It represents a remarkable change in strategy for the companies but there is potential and India is a vastly untapped market for PC hardware and if done right the companies could really prosper. And this is where Alienware comes in, they mainly assemble third party components into laptops and desktops. Alienware was founded in the year 1996 and bought by Dell in 2006, They are now ready to enter India, courtesy of their parent company. Their first product? The M 17x It is a 17 inch gaming laptop, with the base model priced at Rs. 1,39,000. The best part being complete customisation just like Dell products, some features are: You can choose the type of CPU (up to Intel Extreme Quad Processor 2.53Ghz) , The amount of RAM (up to 8GB of Dual Channel Ram), LCD panel up to a resolution of 1900*1200, Up to 1 TB of Hard Disk Space. Choice of Dual Layer Blu Ray Burner. Up to Dual GTX 280M Graphic Cards. 64bit Windows Vista OS What can you expect from such a system? It will literally play every game on planet Earth at maximum graphic options. The system will be a beast literally, around 6kgs and another kg for the power adaptor! The top up options will bring the cost price of the laptop to Rs. 2 lakh plus! Now that is a big barrier for the company, however Alienware caters to the premium crowd, and as such they already have people ready to buy these big expensive systems. They may not break records selling these in India, but it is a Lifestyle product and they are entering the market at a time where they have no competitors yet! A certain company called Mercedes were the first premium car company to enter the market, look where they are now. |
