Thumbs up Dell Inspiron Zino HD

Dell Inspiron Zino HD is a mini desktop which is actually powerful enough for all your day to day applications. Its footprint is really really small. Its almost as much as that of a normal mouse pad !! (The actual size is 8"x8" only)

Its powered by AMD Athlons. The base model has a Athlon 2650e (1.6Ghz, single core) which is actually more powerful than an Atom Dual core(consumes more power than an atom though).

The base model comes with 2GB DDR2 800MHz memory and 250GB HDD. This is actually pretty good considering a price tag of just $250. It comes with a DVD writer too.

This system is really good for surfing the web, downloading and some office work, not for gaming or any other intensive tasks. The really small size makes it an interesting choice for a small HTPC setup. Just hook it up to your LCD TV and you can even watch bluray movies (well you need a bluray ROM and can use only a 2.1 setup with onboard audio, which is a bummer !).

The onboard HD3200 graphics are good enough to play 1080p content easily (unlike the Atom), there is an HDMI connector at the back so that you get the best quality.

This product is not perfect, it lacks the 7.1 audio which would make it perfect for an HTPC, loud fan noise (according to some users), but then its a new kind of product , worth a shot !!

In india, we do not have the HD version, we have the Zino powered by the Atom, which i would avoid as i feel it is far too underpowered and not recommended. It costs Rs18,999 so you would end up paying a little more. I really hope they get the version they sell in the US in india soon.
