According to inside sources, the "thuban" processors (AMD Phenom 2 X6) will feature their own version of turbo boost. It is believed that they will implement some sort of dynamic clockspeed adjustment on the hardware level itself. It works similar to Intel's turbo Boost technology. When a user needs only 2 cores, the processor with increase the clocks of those 2 cores and downclock or even shut down the other inactive cores.

If true, this will be great news for all as in today's world, there are almost no programs that will use these 6 cores. This technology would mean that even with a 6 core processor, it will not compromise on the performance of single/dual/quad core optimized applications while it still provides you a future proof system.
These processors are due to hit stores as early as Q2 2010. No word on pricing, but lets hope that gets leaked soon too. Intel has only 1 hexa core processor,it is the 32nm Core i7 980X which is priced at $999 and is due in march 2010.
