Thread: DVD Writer can't read or write

I have a LG DVD Writer on my HCL pc. The PC was bought on oct.2008 and since four months after the use the dvd writer is not properly working..

I have seen it myself. Uninstalled it. It installed correctly and in device manager says its ok.

when i put any cd or dvd in it, it wont read.
very often it had read some dvds, i am not sure what happened to it.

I have tried to update the driver online but seems that the driver is up to date.

can any one tell me what maybe the reasons..???
for installation of windows 7 i took it to my friend, he installed windows 7 from CD using it, it worked correctly.. Miracle.
but when i tried to put anything from my own, never read.

May be your friend is lucky for your DVD-RW

That may be because it is not used.Try to clean your PC fully internally.

ok i will clean again... i dont touch more of dvd reader actually.

Try to check the lens of your LG DVD writer and try to clean it using the cleaning tools. If the lens is not working then buying a new DVD writer would be a better option because changing the lens would cost you approximately equal to the cost of a new DVD writer.
