Default Assembling a new pc-clarification, questions

    1. This is my planned speaker- Altec Lansing FX5051. Since I can't post url's please google it to their official site.
According to the website, the speaker will get connected to the USB port, so will it use the sound card(ASUS Xonar DX) for output or will it have its own mechanism.
Is this speaker good enough, or should I go for some other?
My motherboard Gigabyte GA-P55-UD2(rev 1.0){please google it} says that it can handle 8.1 speaker system. But how can we connect a 5.1 speaker system in a single port?

    2. Is there a good step by step guide(online only) for assembling a pc, preferably by an Indian?

    1. I am not an expert at this, but if the speakers are connected via USB, it will probably use Windows default sound drivers first. You many have to change the setup and instruct the setup to use the other sound drivers/card.

You can connect 5.1 speakers to an 8.1 system. The speaker system will allot the correct channels. You may have to tweak the setup a bit. And if I may be a little cheeky here, 8.1 sound is a useless feature. There are no sources that produce 8.1 sound.

    thanks for the info.
I didn't mean to have a 8.1 system. What I meant was the motherboard supporting this still has only 1 audio out port, so how can you connect 3 pins of a 5.1 system to a single port?

The motherboard should be having an SPDIF out - that will output encoded digital audio. It should be connected to a system such as an AV Receiver that can decode audio. The connection is as follows:

The mobo should also have multi-channel digital out (female). The male connector looks like this:

It is connected to the speaker system like this:

But in your case, the connection is via USB. I am not too sure on this.

I am guessing that FX5021 is Rs10500 odd right ? Its not a good option for that money. What i would suggest is:
Get a Logitech Z5500, its far far better but a tad costly, at Rs18,000 its really worth the extra. As for the sound card, i would say go for onboard now, later you upgrade. The UD2 has both Optical and Coaxial outs so you can use that to get 5.1 on the speakers (Z5500).
Also, your board has 8ch audio, it is 7.1ch not 8.1

also, do you need the full PC for Rs60k ? (monitor,UPS,bla bla...) and what is the primary purpose of this PC?

I will surely check out for Logitech Z5500. Ok I will also go for onboard audio.
Rs. 60,000 for whole PC ie this is my planned config:
    PRIMARY COMPONENTS
    PROCESSOR-Intel Core i5 750 (Rs 9,900)
    MOTHERBOARD-Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 (Rs. 6,200)
    RAM-2X1GB DDR3 800 Mhz(Corsair) (Rs. 2500)
    GRAPHICS CARD-ZOTAC GeForce 9600GT (Rs 4,750)
    HARD DRIVE-Seagate 1TB 7200.12 (Rs 4,400)
    MONITOR-BenQG2420HD (Rs 12,500)
    Sec. comp
    CABINET-Zebtronics Antibiotic (Rs2,100)
    power supply-vip 400W Gold (Rs850)
    OPTICAL DRIVE-LG H55N (Rs1,100)
    Logitech Keyboard and Mouse Combo

And yes, I will be using this pc as a multimedia cum gaming rig.
