On 26th, Nvidia finally launched their much anticipated GTX400 series of DX 11 graphics processors. This has come almost 6 months after ATI released their hugely successful 58xx series.
The cards launched today were the GTX 480 and the GTX 470. The top dog, GTX 480 competes with the 5870 and the GTX 470 with the 5850. There are many reviews out on the net, all suggest that the GTX 480 and GTX 470 are faster than the ATI cards.
In most games, the GTX 480 is 10-15% faster than the 5870, in some cases even more. This will only get better with newer drivers (tests were done using BETA drivers).
Oh yes, here is the catch. These cards are more expensive than the ATI cards. The GTX 480 is set to be launched at a price of $499 and the GTX 470 at $349. These are about 20% more than that of ATI's pricing. SO, you may think its still not too bad, the price difference is justified. But, here is the real bummer, the major issue with the fermi, its power consumption and heat.
We knew that these cards have a very high TDP and as expected, tests show that their power consumption is almost 100W more than the ATI cards and the Fermi cards run very hot and loud too, this is in contrast to the ATI's evergreen.
So, with that known, which one will you take, Nvidia or ATI ?
