Default Clarification and info regarding HTPC

    Hi,

I'm a complete newbie to the HTPC concept. I came across this HTPC concept today accidentally. I know this is all about building a home theater using a PC.

Right now, all i have is a 2.1 channel speaker (pretty boring).
Well, how can i make it better?(buy more speakers?) all i would do with it watch some good movie with some good sound (you know, sounds from back, from sides etc).

Fortunately i found out my PC is kind of close to supporting a home theatre ( well i think so ). This is what the mother board spec says.

    • Realtek ALC889 codec
    • High Definition Audio
    • 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
    • Support for Dolby® Home Theater
    • Support for S/PDIF In/Out
    • Support for CD In

Please let me know how i can make it better (alteast make use of what i have). Although I don't want to invest huge money in it. i want to watch a movie with some good sound ( for awesome sound i think i need to shell out a lot of money so "good" would suffice ).

    Please let me know.

    ~Cheers

    Hi,

First of all please do post the proper model number of the mobo and the rest of the combo,This should include everything in the comp and also the Monitor/LCD TV !!

Based on the Audio Chipset you mention, its pretty much the best chipset available in onboard solution and is good to go !

Please let me know how i can make it better (alteast make use of what i have). Although I don't want to invest huge money in it. i want to watch a movie with some good sound ( for awesome sound i think i need to shell out a lot of money so "good" would suffice ).
Also please be specific when you say the above, what exactly you want to improve ? if its just sound then you discard the existing 2.1 and buy some 5/7.1 speaker setup from Creative,Altec,Logitech etc within budget ! If the budget is somewhere around 20K,then look for HITB's or Onkyo setup !

    Regards.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

Please Find the complete spec of my computer below.

    Mother Board : Gigabyte X58A - UD3R
    Processor: Core i7 - 950
20" dell LCD monitor HD ( has a VGA port and DVI port )
ATI HD 5750 Graphics card ( has a HDMI port and DVI port )
    Sony DVD combo
    Crosair Vx550 power supply (550W)
    Creative 2.1 Channel speakers.
    WD 500 GB HardDisk
    Cooler master 430 Black cabinet.

I know really good sound clarity requires good investment in speakers. But its out of my budget. 20K would be very much for me. I'l looking at a low cost around 5k - 6K INR.

and i want to add .. i need to improve the sound clarity. make it more surround sound sort of .. how to add more speakers to the computer.

And first of all what exactly is a Home theater? does 5.1 channel with a good HD tv setup qualify as a home theater?. (sorry if its a bad question)

    Please reply
