Default Which processor is good for Gaming and Multitasking?

Hi guys, I am just about to buy a PC.. And I am little bit confused choosing the Processor... So, I need ur help choosing one... hope i'll get help

Alright, First I'll tell u What I am going to do with my PC,

    1.Power Gaming
    2.Multimedia works like ( 3D animation, Image editing, Audio/Video Editing,etc)

And, I have selected some processors,

    1.AMD Phenom II x6 1100t Black Edition = 6 Cores
    2.i7 2600k = 4 Cores
    3.i7 970 = 6 Cores

I've also searched some Bench marks and i7 2600K leads..

My real confusion is i7 2600k is 4 cores and costly too. If I buy this processor can it be used for atleast 5 years with good speed as shows now.. Coz, Mostly people confuse me by saying in a year or two all softwares and games would need 6 cores. So, buy 6 cores. not 4 cores... That's why I am asking...

Shall I go with present good performing 4 core processor i7 2600K or

Shall I go for i7 970 or AMD 6 core processor...?

Thanks in advance for ur answers...

You should really go for AMD coz it works better with gaming and animation works.
Not Sure about the make and model but choose AMD for multimedia based work.

the most value-for-money among the three is the phenom II x6 1100t be

if you want high end video rendering on your pc you better go with the snb 2600k+radeon hd5670,that will hook you up for the next 3-4 years
btw, don't listen to idiots who say that the software revolution will call for a 6 core proccy

but if that is too much for your budget,go for the phenom II x6 1075t+radeon hd 6870

Thanks all who shared ur opinions...

I consider performance more than money. But, still money matters so as far as I have searched i7 2600k is the one every one suggests and benchmarks are good. I will go for i7 2600k. But, when it comes to Graphic cards I'm getting confused again... I have some options.

    GTX 570
    Radeon HD 6950
    Radeon HD 6850 Crossfire.

What about physx technology in nvidia..? Shall I go for nvidia for this technology or Ati/AMD for power consumption and low noise...?

    Well, what do u think..?

personally i favor Ati over Nvidia
you don't need the physics engine at all when using snb 2600
go for the radeon 6970 AMD Radeon? HD 6970 Graphics

with a snb 2600+radeon 6970+Gskill ripjaws/snifer/Corsair dominator gt 6/8gb memory, your rig will fly for the next 4-5 years

AMD is better for graphic applications, Intel is an overall balanced cpu.

i7 gives diminishing returns over i5. Real-time performance of i5(2500k/Sandy Bridge/705-Lannyfield) is very near to i7. i7 is too costly for what it gives. Very few applications can use the physical and virtual cores of i7 completely and hence i5 is anytime a better choice.

At last I bought i7-2600K... Gaming performance is great with Ati HD6850.. Will replace it soon with HD6950 or any other graphic card which ever is good at that time... And heavy multimedia works are done without frustration of slow speed... Over all spent my money for the better one.. Thanks everyone for your suggestions....

I am using the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T, and have absolutely no problem whatsoever. It is very much better than the i7 in terms of value for money. Also 6 cores ensure that you will not have an obselete processor for any software that might need all the cores in the future.

All three are good for gaming. I prefer i7, either of two. I say it since the future games will be heavier and require a stronger CPU to process them. The heat is not too much realizable. However CPU alone is not sufficient, You should consider RAM as well. For now 2GB RAM is fine, but in next two years, 4GB RAM will be count as a normal size.

All this talk of faster processors must be generating a lot of heat in a CPU box. How to keep it cool in a country like India during hot summers and high humidity without an air conditioner, at the most a dessert cooler in the room though not directly in front of the PC? Anyhow I am avid supporter of AMD technology for a desktop though not suited for a laptop.

not all softwares but most games will require 6cores or more in later years why?...still maximum necessary application (except multimedia) run smoothly on dual core.then why quad core?.why w7..any big difference from xp other than graphics..problem is that game manufacturer will modify/create new games those will demand more cpu and gpu.. so new product(read higher priced product) will sell..plz get it clear .over 80% of high end configuration desktops go to games consumers..less than 20% are in developer account..so who will pay the laboratory expenses for new technology if new game run on 5 years old pc ?who will feed the sellers and computer manufacturer companies ?...so don't worry after 2 year you have to buy another desktop 8 core or more...now get it why so much ad. for virtual games.....

I am sorry about your experience but I respectfully disagree that "AMD sucks". Perhaps you did not choose the correct CPU for the purpose.

AMD is better in the long run, intel has some really exciting new processors too which look really awsm.. like the i7, but for affordable and reliable system i would suggest go for an AMD.!

AMD is best suited for gaming and graphics processing. Intel is too expensive and run hot.

Well, in my opinion Nvidia is best choice just for gaming, as far as my experience says if you are photographer or do video editing in that case ATI work good, it renders pixels through their pixel pipeline in better way but when it comes to gaming no doubt ATI has no chance to stand against Nvidia, Physic engine is a technology and there are many games which require physic in your graphic card games like "Call of duty world at war" and many more. I have experienced ATI and Nvidia both even played the same games on the both the cards to be very honest Nvidia is good for gaming however it doesn't mean that ATI is not that powerful but for me Nvidia works. Talk about the CPU i think i7 970 has immersive performance and can handle multiple tasking and really gives awesome performance in gaming as well. AMD is also best but my experience was not too good with but of-course I would like to give a try soon and will share my experience with you guys than
