If your computer is still working don't get rid of it.
Install Jolicloud OS [designed for netbooks] and give it a new lease of life.

Very nice suggestion. Knew about it only a few days back. Quite good if you have a very old working PC.

It is a good idea to ask the local repair or computer shops, they sometimes purchase old computers, or else try selling it online on OLX.

I've still got a first-generation Pentium PC that's running MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1. I absolutely love it, it still works and I can play all my old DOS games without the issues an emulator like DOSBox brings to the table. The best part of this Pentium system is that it comes with an original Creative Labs SoundBlaster card. It has 100% AdLib compatibility, meaning that most old PC games will run properly with the glorious FM-synthesis soundtracks in tact. No need to rely on the terrible PC speaker most DOS games supported as an alternative.

There's no need to get rid of perfectly good and working hardware. Just because it has aged, does not mean that it has no use anymore.

I think it is better to stick to a working computer as long as it can meet your demands. If we keep on selling old computers to embrace new technology there is no end to it. Technology is changing every second and it is impossible to keep pace with it. But if it is really old and not able to give the output you demand you may think of selling it. I think it is a good thing to sell it than add it to e-waste.

E-waste is a big danger coming up nowadays. The whole world is polluted with used up smartphones, laptops, desktops and other electronic equipments. They are contaminating the natural resources. In most of the cases there is no way to properly recycle them.
