    Default Upgrade to SSD.

    Hi guys,

I finished my upgrade to SSD yesterday! I bought a Crucial 120GB SSD online (theitdepot.com) @ 5120 INR. The desktop I'm using has SATA I interface (speeds upto 1.5 Gbps, however the SSD supports SATA III (upto 6GB/s)! Anyhow, these interfaces are backward compactible, so decided to give it a shot!

Installation was pretty easy. I replaced the existing Seagate 80GB with this SSD. Installed Win XP on SSD, and the 80GB now is now secondary drive.

The difficulty was the size difference. The existing drive bay was too big to screw the SSD in place. I had to use a plastic thread to tie it in place! See the size difference below!

Let me know if I can be of further assistance for your Desktop upgrade to SSD!!

    Cheers!
    Nevin.

Yes!! The system is now performing a lot better than before. The best thing is, you don't wait for software's to 'load'. Usually it takes sometime for the start up programs (antivirus, Skype.. etc) to load, and that too takes time. Well, I can see the improvement for sure. I might probably use the same SSD if I even plan to change to a new desktop with Win 10 :-)

I was going to buy a new computer some time ago but as soon as I got SSD fitted in my desktop the lag that I used to feel with everything is gone. I use Windows 10 now because the upgrade was free. Due to getting SSD, my purchase is postponed by atleast two-three years if not more.

I decided to build (well, I'm not going to build it, but I chose the parts) a new desktop, I'm currently using a laptop and I want a more durable and with much better performance computer so I decided to go for a desktop! And I want a SSD! My intention is to place a SSD with 240GB and having an external disk, with 500GB or 1TB, don't know yet, but probabl the 500GB is a better option, I can buy it at a cheaper price than the 1TB and at the same time have better performance. So all I need to do is put the files like movies, music, photos, games, etc.. in the external disk and only change them to the SSD whenever I need them. SO the 240GB will be more than enough and I will have a much faster computer! What do you think?

also if you are comfortable, try a linux version like LXLE or XUBUNTU. you will have a blazing speed system.

That's awesome! I'm glad that you upgraded to a SSD, they are absolutely phenomenal. Apart from the smaller storage capacity, I much prefer them over traditional hard drives. They are dead quite, far faster and tend to be a bit more reliable. Although you'll find some folks are divided whether SSDs are truly more reliable, I've heard a lot of conflicting views.
