If someone really knows tha hardware and chooses good options especially for motherboard and graphics card then assembled is a better option because one will get more for the same cost.

For non-techies, I would advise branded.

I voted for branded because I think assembled and branded prices are not as far apart as they used to be..
The only assembled pc Ive ever bought was back in 1999 when I paid a fortune for it and the branded ones were out of reach for me at that time but these days branded ones have got a lot cheaper and they also come with a warranty.

I prefer Assembled one.....Its cheaper than Branded one...
Today...you will get a assembled PC with good configuration for around Rs 17,000~18,000. The same configuraion with branded one would cost you 4000~5000 more. Even when we buy assembled...we get warranty....

Definitely assembled... It gives customization option too...
I'm not too convinced with ur point Admin.. The price difference is significant if one research the market well... When I assembled my PC... It took me around 7 days to decide from which vendor I've to take which parts of my desktop... Its not easy to bargain, if u assemble from 1 shop... they keep huge margin... then the price difference between branded & customized PC isn't much...
In assembled desktop u get warranty on each part with their respective bill as well...

But choose ur configuration & purchasing options wisely... My PC could have cost me atleast 5-6 grands more if i would go for a branded one...
Therez only 1 downside of my method... It takes too much time... but its worth it... And I feel my PC is my baby...

You got 2 month certification courses that if you attend ...you can start assembling ur own PCs ...

And yes you have to Haggle for Pc Parts urself .... In my case i just go to Richie street ..A Techies heaven .... There r millions of shops which give u everything at competent prices .....

@ShAdOwCoN, if you go to US (west coast) and ever visit Fry's store you will go crazy. I mean they have the online store (http://www.frys.com) but seeing that everything online is also available on the shelf is simply mind bogling.

Assambled.... cuz you can build your pc with really good config and spend only 50-75% compared to the branded one..... but you need knowledge in the hardware department.... attending a crash course will be enough...... my system is assembled(didnt go for course but have read a lot of ebooks when it comes to computers)

As for shadowcon your are right about Richie street, never been there but my friends have said that its a Techno paradise..... will be going there soon to buy new hardwares for building a new pc....

Yes, as far as you know hardware or you know some reliable person who knows hardware, then assembled system is best for you...

When I bought computer before 5 years ago, I had different wishes for different parts like Microtek for UPS and Sony for CPU and all. So, I gone for assembled.

    Question

Well, as for me I really prefer branded ones than assembled ones... because, sometimes, it is not easy to get all the drivers for assembled ones. However, if someone have good knowledge regarding computer, assembled ones will surely meet his needs and save some money.

    Thumbs up Assembled anytime!!!!!!!

I have voted for an assembled PC. It gives us an option to customize according to our needs.

This question maybe off topic. But people, can you people help me to assemble a new PC. I am planning to invest 40k for it. Can you please give me a good configuration, which is suitable for internet surfing. I am including accessories like webcam, headphones and speakers also. Will be very helpful for me..

    Thanks

Yes. I know investing 40k on a PC which is used for internet surfing is too much. I am not into gaming. But my brother is. And sorry that I did'nt mention it earlier. Now, can I get details of a good configuration

Assembling a comp gives more customization features and is better provided one buys hardware from a well known store(i suggest computer warehouse for ppl in bangalore (apnacomp.com)). Branded comps are also great but one will also have to buy a monitor along with the cabinet which is painful for those who are willing to use their old monitor. All brands in india provide a CRT/LCD monitor along with the cabinet.

I find its cheaper to actually get a branded computer (dell) in the US than to assemble. I am sure you can build a bit cheaper and I have built my computers before but I think my next desktop will be a branded machine. Quad core with 4 gb of ram. Too bad XP has gone bust but I will use my XP code from my old laptop (it goes to unix) on the new desktop - dell only has vista which i royally hate.

I need it for my photo processing.

By the way check out Newegg dot com (what the hell it put an ad in between) some of the best prices in the US. Fry's is my local hang out though, its something every indian should see. Well its owned by indian people and they do hire a lot of indian people.

edit: you dotn need training to build a computer... its simple, follow instructiosn on the web.. heck I have built enough to know that i can build one from scratch in about 45 minutes.

I think branded is better than assembled computers coz if any problem comes in your way you can use your phone to get that fixed and if it needs any hardware replacement or anything like that then also you know that someone is there to take care of that

    Default definatly assembled

In assembled ,u get your choice-the best one
bcoz one company is not good in all hardware.
And that is cost effective also.

There is no company which manufacturs all the desktop computer components.. Even branded computers are put together using components from different companies.

I would prefer a branded desktop. While going for assembled there is risk involved that it may be better or worst. For branded stuffs we get the standard quality.
