I did some homework related to the compression technologies used by our DTH service providers.
Some of the DTH providers use MPEG2 and some of them use MPEG4.
what is the great difference it makes?
Here are the fact i figured out,
1.MPEG2 can deliver the same picture quality of MPEG4,
but MPEG2 requires more bandwidth to deliver that quality.
2.Both compression technology depend upon the quality of the source.
As i experienced myself, MPEG4 DTH technology provides a better quality than a MPEG2 providers.
Some of them will argue that, the picture Quality difference between the MPEG2 and MPEG4 are negligible.
answer is : certainly No.
why,
Actually the MPEG2 DTH providers just reduce the bandwidth for a single channel, in order to broadcast more channels within a single transponder, so this leads to quality degradation.
Most of them may experienced , that tatasky has better picture quality than Dish tv , because Dish tv broadcast more channels in a single transponder than tatasky do.
MPEG4 has the better advantage over MPEG2 in terms of picture quality, more channels in single transponders(i.e less bandwidth).
if you want to experience the best quality of the picture generated from the source, then
1.Go for MPEG4 DTH provider.
2.If your setup box have a component output then connect Your TV with that, provided you must have an component input in the tv also.
the above points are the experience and knowledge, i gained.
i didnt mean to contradict with others view.
