    Default Airtel or Tata Sky

Finally gonna get a dth soon... and i'm now just so much more confused than the days that we just had tatasky n dishTV... tata sky was the clear winner...

    1) i want a quality picture n sound no doubt (thats why no dish tv),

    2) language selection feature to view programs in their originality.

    3) special features for tennis matches?? (i don't know whether dth provide anything special for tennis, they're all mad about cricket like 90% of us, so can't blame them. personally, i hate cricket.

    4) want all the western channels along with the news and those hindi soap channels (a wide range of audience at my home ), except the south channels which are not needed....
whats the difference between the prices? i find tata sky's pricing to be confusing nowadays.

    5) if i get another stb for my tv tuner card, which service will be cheaper?

So please will you help me out... i cant decide upon anything.

n please do not suggest bigTV to me...heard about their 'BIG' bigTV logo

i hate reliance just as i do samsung.

See, you wont be able to fulfill all your choices of channels with any DTH. even if you dont want you will have to pay for some of the south indian channels etc ...

i will give you one simple answer on - taka sky or airtel

    1) just tell me how much are you willing to pay monthly?

about 400 is ok with you?

    2) are you ready to pay for 1 year's subscription at a go?

Go for Airtel Platinum(6 months free ultra pack worth rs.400 pm for rs.3500) - or Gold(3 months free ultra pack worth rs.400 pm for rs.2500) subscriptions according to your convenience. these packages are inclusive of installation charges. both these offers the Ultra pack - i.e all the channels. after the initial subscription period - this Ultra pack will cost you rs.400 per month.

check here : Digital TV from Airtel and Digital TV from Airtel

or if you are willing to pay for 1 year -> you can also opt for tata sky annual mega pack -> 170 channels i.e. all channels available with tata sky -> rs. 5000 per year.

you can also choose individual packages of tata sky according to your need - but trust me it will casue you more problems in long run - the package prices are incresed periodically, some channels are extraced from a package and add up to form a new package and this causes a lot of headache.

check here .. : Tata Sky’s New DTH Packages With More DTH Paid Channels, Sports Platinum Pack, Sports Gold pack, South Value Pack, Educational Gold Pack and more

tata sky installation charges will be additional. rs.1499 i think

I hope you have realised by now. Airtel has around 7 Asli HD channels and Dish TV is fooling the common man by including Upscaled Channels in the list of Asli HD Channels.

Recently (In March, to be precise) I purchased an LG 47LE5500 in Bangalore. I have TATA SKY SD connection since 3 years. I didn't immediately switch over to HD DTH since there were not many number of channels available in the market. Now, I have planned to upgrade to HD DTH (No HD DVR, only HD), and I am mighty confused between TATA SKY and AIRTEL.

In my 3 years with TATA SKY, I had to call the customer service only while shifting my residence. Apart from that I never had to call them, the service was flawless, atleast that's what I experienced. Now, I am confused between TATA SKY and Airtel because-

    1) Airtel has Movies Now HD whereas TATA SKY has Star Cricket. I would prefer a 24hr HD Movie Channel rather than a sports channel.

    2) If I count only the Annual Offers that too which include all channels currently offered by both the operators, then Airtel comes to 5900/- and TATA SKY to 7200/-

    3) Read many reviews regarding poor Airtel CC, while from personal experience TATA SKY is trouble free so far.

    4) Came across multiple articles that point to TATA SKY's capacity constraint. From what I have read and heard the increase in TATA SKY's channel count is seriously dependent on the next satellite launch by ISRO, and that too sometime in 2012. I dont know to what extent this info is correct, but if it is then its not good news.

    5) Information available on Airtel website is ambiguous. When I called their CC for inquiring a new connection they said that Ultra and South Ultra are the same, but if I see the Annual Entry Cost for a HD Connection, then Ultra is priced at 5900/- and South Ultra at 6100/-. If everything is same then why the price difference, even though its only 200/-.

    6) I am not sure if Ultra and South Ultra pack on Airtel includes all channels offered currently by Airtel just like Mega Pack in TATA SKY offers all channels except Topper. TATA SKY has clearly mentioned this whereas Airtel is just not bothered.

Any suggestions / inputs from you guys is highly appreciated. Just make sure, it has to be either TATA SKY or Airtel

Guess what, I just booked a Videocon D2H HD Zapper Box (non-DVR) today and fixed an installation date on September 17 (that's when my TATA SKY subscription expires). Thanks for your suggestion.

Good choice... Also there is one thing that i think is applicable for all providers, the location. Big cities get better service than smaller one's!

    Cool review, I must say.

Couple of questions, if you can let me know the answers to them-

    1) Do you have an SD / HD / HD-DVR connection? Sorry if I missed reading that.

    2) Can you tell me if the size of the Dish is 65cms or 90cms? I heard that there are 2 types and hence, checking. The larger dish is very much less prone to signal loss during rains.

I have opted for the Platinum HD pack. Got a satisfactory deal online:

    2690/- HD STB and Installation
less 400/- Cash back in account
less 441/- One month free Platinum HD Pack

So the effective Hardware cost came to 1849/- which I think is good for an HD connection.
