    Default DTH HD Services

I read the post HD Channels on Sun Direct DTH and saw that Sun Direct are launching it......but how much of a difference will HD make to the quality realistically speaking?

First there was MPEG 4, which I didn't find any different in honestly speaking!!!!

Do you think this change will attract more customers?

The first requirement for this is an HD LCD TV which will really make a lots of difference.

You can go through the demo to understand the difference. Sun Direct HD

HD TV will make a huge difference - but as deepmohan said - on HD capable TV only. On normal CRT TV or non-HD TV, it will make no difference.

But I am not sure whether the Sun HD services are near HD (720 i/p) or full HD (1080 i/p). It does not say anything on the website. This is what it says:

High-Definition is the top of the line, all digital format for broadcasting and viewing TV programming. With HD broadcast the images will be 2 to 5 times sharper than the images from normal broadcast. The reason being the digital signals send in 0’s and 1’s for HD Broadcasting will be received at the customer point as it is which is not the case for normal television broadcasting. The result of the same is, superior television viewing experience which is delivered in a crystal clear, wide screen format with CD quality sound. It will be like as if you are experiencing your favorite television program in a movie theatre.
    And further ...

Sun Direct HD is our best TV viewing experience with up to 5 times more detail, incredibly vibrant colors, and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The Sun Direct HD pack will give you cutting edge hi-definition entertainment currently available with more intense viewing experience in the offering. ( High Quality Image)
Sun Direct HD: Seeing every detail – It offers up to 5 times more detail than other normal services which ensures that you are not missing even the minutest of detail ( Image – Dissected into Normal Viewing and Hi Definition Viewing)
Sun Direct HD: Vibrant Colors – It offers you vibrant colors and sharper images which thrills you with intense experience (Normal Image viewing and Hi Definition Image Viewing)
Sun Direct HD: Dolby Surround Sound Experience – Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound with Sun Direct HD ensures that you will be experiencing the sound “ as real as it gets” taking you really there ( Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound Sample)
The above is not only mis-leading but confusing:

    a) First of all, all DTH is digital, that is, '0's and '1's.
    b) Normal DTH is also CD quality sound. HD sound should be better that Dolby Digital 5.1. It should be Dolby TruHD or DTS-HD.

    Anyone know that cost?

I checked every where and really there is no mention about what the resolution will be so I called SUN and they have no clue about resolution and all they know is it will be HD.

The only channel of my interest is the national geo but switching to SUN looks unlikely without knowing if the resolution would be 1080 or not.

HD (or near HD) is 720p or 720i. Full (true) HD is 1080p or 1080i.

In the US, majority of the HD channels are 1080i.
