    Default HD Channels on DTH

There is a new and emerging trend or you can say way to technology with DTH companies these days and its about going HD.
First it started off with Sun DTH, then Tata Sky and who knows which DTH company will be next!

Its a good move from the side of DTH companies, but will existing customers pay additional money for the new upgraded set top box? Obviously depending on how much it would be, and I would expect it to on the higher side.

The other downside I see is that the HD channels will only be for some channels and not all of them, which may make people reconsider that too!

That solely depends on the customer if he is willing to go for HD existing customers will not be subject to the charge.

The DTH will be able to provide the channels of content providers and yes there are few channels but with demand it is expected for more number of channels to provide HD content.

Do you think that in time, more channels will be made HD? I wouldn't think that channels like Zee TV, Star would, but the movie channels would maybe consider this change!

    What do you guys think?

A long time ago, even before Sun HD, I had predicted that Infotainment channels (NatGeo, Discovery, AP, etc.) will be the first channels to go to HD. This will be quickly followed by Sports channels. Some news channels will follow and then will fall in line, the movie and the general entertainment channels.

Yesterday night on tv I saw an ad, and it was for HD channels, but this time it was movie channels! It was a quick glimpse so I wasnt able to get a clear idea or view of what all movie channels are going to be available on HD, but Star Movies was one of them.

Yeh thats true. I think more people will begin to opt for HD channels and get the new set top box, because of the wide variety of channels.
