Thread: BSNL scheduled to launch their IPTV service today

Government owned Telecom Company BSNL is due to launch their IPTV operations today. There has been a news posting on the company’s website which states:

CMD, BSNL will launch IP-TV Service of BSNL in Pune on 15 March 2007. Initially, the service is being launched for BSNL customers in Pune and subsequently it will be rolled out in other cities. This Service will enable BSNL iptv Customers to watch TV & Movies through Broadband connection.

This means that the company is going to begin by test launching the service in Pune to see user experience and after getting rid of the bugs and other issues in the system, they would expand it to other cities.

With this, IPTV service would have a much wider presence in India as currently only MTNL is providing such a service in Delhi and Mumbai. Airtel is supposed to be testing the service since quite some time but we have not heard much about it in the recent days.

If you mean what is iptv... Iptv in simple words is sending television signals over telephone lines. Bsnl has announced thier own iptv which will be available across India except Delhi and Mumbai where Mtnl iptv is already available at selected exchanges.
